The Team: This position is in Oil Markets, Midstream & Downstream (OMD) research team within S&P Global commodity insights division. We deliver information expertise and strategic insights on the global and regional downstream oil market for both - short as well as long-term. Our clients largely comprise oil and gas operators, international/ national oil companies, financial investors, governments, and other stakeholders.
The Impact: The oil and gas downstream business stands at a critical juncture as we accelerate towards energy transition and alternative fuels. The market has been extremely volatile in the short-term, while political consensus around energy transition steadily pushing for decarbonization as well as net-zero guides the long-term outlook. You will be working within a team of oil markets, midstream, and downstream specialists and across a business possessing expertise spanning all related sectors, as we seek to grow our thought leadership position.

Responsibilities:
- Manage and perform complex research assignments across the downstream industry by utilizing different sources and advanced secondary research techniques.
- Conduct in-depth research on geographic segment trends, competitors, industry market trends and issues, and relevant technology topics.
- Manage, maintain, and enhance proprietary analytical models and databases currently marketed to OMD clients such as supply/demand, inventory models, etc. Deliver research-based projects and models customized for client needs.
- Respond to client research-related questions by providing timely insights and judgement to address questions and/or connect with clients to clarify needs.
- Use proprietary models to forecast supply/demand/trade of refined products and collaborate with regional teams to arrive at long term outlooks.
- Interpret modeling results for understanding and reasonableness and take corrective action to address any irregularities.
- Collaborate with regional teams to research and deliberate on the latest market trends and write comprehensive reports on short-term and long-term outlooks.
- Support thought leadership and writing insight papers based on research highlighting recent market developments and government policies.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with local and regional management.
- Ability to assist team management to promote effective use of resources across projects.
- Support and mentor junior staff to design and deliver work, grow professionally, and meet the strategic growth objectives of the downstream team.
- Perform data structuring and analysis using technology tools such as Python, and data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, and Tableau.
What We're Looking For:
- Preferably a Masters' degree with a background of Chemical Engineering or Energy-related degree required with 8+ years of experience.
- Good understanding of refinery processes is a must. Knowledge of petrochemical processes is desired.
- Knowledge of global oil and refined product markets, with 3+ years' experience in data analytics. Previous experience related to analyzing oil balance is a plus.
- Advance knowledge in Office 365 applications, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Strong data visualization skills including experience with PowerBI or similar
- Programming skills, especially data handling & manipulation in SQL & Python is desired.
- Displays well-rounded communication skills that implement good listening techniques, clear, concise writing style, and good verbal skills. The ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally. Public speaking experience is a plus.
- Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines. Able to adjust priorities throughout the day.
- Strong problem-solving and logical reasoning skills - should be able to independently troubleshoot and question data that does not follow logic. Equally, they should be confident to query work to understand and streamline it further.
- Ability to demonstrate models and analytical results to key stakeholders.
- Highly motivated, results oriented and aptitude for self-learning.
- Ability to coach individuals, have strong interpersonal skills, customer focus, and stakeholder relationships.
