Job description
- The Digital Experience Platform team is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering
- In this role, you will manage a team of backend engineers and be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of the backend services, integrations and infrastructure of a software product or service
- This role will likely leverage your prior software development experience
- You would also be responsible for ensuring that the backend systems are scalable, secure and reliable
What you will do
Team leadership:
- Responsible for managing a team of backend engineers, setting goals, and providing guidance and support to meet objectives
- Regular interaction with the team and all aspects of people management.
- Work with the individual technical leads, management, and product owner to plan and track the teams work, report on progress in planning and review meetings, and help the team to reach technical consensus.
Technical expertise:
- Deep understanding of backend technologies and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance to the team.
- Develop a relationship with the DevOps team to deploy, configure and support product infrastructure needs.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work with Product Owner and Project Manager on sprint planning, product deliverables and future strategy.
- Coordinate with program/project management and oversee resource allocation.
- Represent the team at functional meetings, customer, partner, and developer discussions
- Quality Engg:Develop a relationship with the QE organization to collaborate on test plans, strategy and resource requirements.
- Develop value metrics and reports to highlight the success of the workstream, product and team.
Scalability and Reliability:
- You ensure that the backend systems are scalable, secure, and reliable, and that they can handle the expected load and traffic.
- Develop relationships outside the Digital Experience Organization to create opportunities, increase product scope
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest technologies and best practices in backend engineering, and you continuously seek ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services.
- Mentoring and Coaching: Mentor and coach your team members to help them grow and develop their skills, and you provide feedback and support to help them succeed.
Support the coaching and personal development of engineers on the teams.
What you will bring
- The familiarity with backend frameworks and technologies, such as Spring Boot, or Node.js.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, microservices architecture.
The ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under pressure and tight deadlines - Familiarity with version control systems like git, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Leadership experience through direct people management, team lead activities, or project management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A background in computer software development

- Strong technical understanding of the domain (Full stack)
- Proven track record of handling multiple tasks, prioritizing
- Troubleshooting skills with a passion for problem-solving, investigation, and learning new technologies
- Familiarity with open source software and open source as a business model
- Working knowledge of how a Linux distribution is built
- Familiarity with Red Hats product portfolio and subscription business model
- A passion for open source software
- Bachelors degree in a technical field
