Job description

Job Title: Desktop Hardware Support Engineer

Overview:
As a Desktop Hardware Support Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise for desktop hardware-related issues within the organization. This role entails diagnosing and resolving hardware problems, deploying new hardware devices, and ensuring the smooth operation of desktop systems. You will collaborate with other IT teams and end-users to deliver efficient and effective solutions that meet business needs.

Responsibilities:

Diagnose and resolve hardware issues related to desktops, laptops, printers, peripherals, and other end-user computing devices.
Install, configure, and deploy desktop hardware components including CPUs, memory, hard drives, graphics cards, and network adapters.
Perform hardware upgrades and replacements as necessary to maintain optimal system performance and functionality.
Troubleshoot hardware failures, including identifying defective components and coordinating repairs or replacements with vendors or service providers.
Maintain an inventory of desktop hardware assets, including tracking serial numbers, configurations, and warranty information.
Collaborate with other IT support teams to escalate and resolve complex hardware problems that impact end-user productivity.
Develop and maintain documentation for hardware configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and best practices.
Provide technical guidance and training to end-users on the proper use and maintenance of desktop hardware.
Stay informed about emerging hardware technologies and industry trends to make recommendations for hardware refresh cycles and technology upgrades.
Participate in desktop hardware procurement activities, including evaluating vendor proposals, conducting product evaluations, and making recommendations for hardware purchases.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements related to desktop hardware usage and maintenance.
Assist in the planning and execution of desktop hardware refresh projects, including coordinating equipment procurement, imaging, and deployment activities.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Proven experience in desktop hardware support or a similar technical support role.
Strong knowledge of desktop hardware components, architectures, and troubleshooting techniques.
Proficiency in diagnosing hardware issues using diagnostic tools and techniques.
Experience with hardware imaging and deployment tools (e.g., SCCM, MDT) is preferred.
Familiarity with enterprise desktop management solutions and remote support tools.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with end-users and IT colleagues.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a customer-centric approach to service delivery.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate are a plus.
