Director, Program Management

The Director, Program Management will be responsible for owning complex program strategy development and implementation across a program portfolio that enables world-class user experiences.

They will lead cross-functional teams to drive collaborative decisions by continuously helping them to successfully navigate through critical business changes, while developing an autonomous team to drive business results.

What you'll do:

  • Influence partners to align perspectives, enable one's own team, and remove roadblocks
  • Helps team to utilize deep expertise and contextual awareness to explore sophisticated issues with customers and provide trusted advice
  • Serves as a subject matter authority to others on new insights and solutions that will improve current business processes and address challenges, and uses other subject matter authorities as needed to develop solutions
  • Coaches employees and managers to analyze and understand partner dynamics, enabling them to engage effectively
  • Provides guidance when evaluating the impacts of a solution to ensure linkages between structure, people, process and technology
  • Enables optimum organizational efficiency by taking a whole systems approach and thinking across boundaries to identify which polices/processes should be standardized and which should differ and how to enable the team to achieve efficiencies
  • Supports team to establish and maintain relationships across disciplines to build common tools, language, systems and structure to drive development of team
  • Creatively develops tools, visual aids and other original content and coaches others to support the understanding/education of complex and technical information (e.g., legal, operational risk, and regulatory data)
  • Guides others on the best practices and approaches for creating clear, concise and organized communication materials to convey technical concepts in a user-friendly way
  • Challenges others to bring fresh and creative perspective to differentiating technical communications and ensuring comprehension and ease-of-use for various audiences
  • Identifies and recommends improvements to the software development lifecycle and best practices in agile engineering. Recommends changes in program approaches to ensure best outcomes
  • Provides input into various software development strategies (e.g. unit testing, acceptance testing, continuous delivery and integration, release and deployment for frequent and reliable release), works with team to decide on using agile vs. traditional methodologies on programs within the portfolio
  • Understands how programs within the portfolio affect the organization's Agile roadmap. Works with leaders to ensure impacts are accounted for in both the program portfolio and Agile roadmap
  • Supports the development/implementation of complex software development practices and their application to programs within the portfolio
  • Keeps abreast of the progress of multiple programs across the department. Coaches team and adjusts priorities, timelines, or resources as needed
  • Monitors resource usage across portfolio, identifying areas or synergy or redundancy and looking for ways to optimize efficiency
  • Keeps key stakeholders appraised of program and portfolio risks and handles difficult decisions and communications when timelines cannot be achieved
  • Understands organization's business objectives and ensures program portfolio (including program outcomes) aligns with overall business goals
  • Understands program management operational models. Recommends program management engagement model and org structure that aligns with objectives of the organization
  • Serves as an escalation point for programs within the portfolio. Works across organizational boundaries to remove roadblocks
  • Leverages understanding of external market practices related to Project Management best practices and utilizes this knowledge in the work
  • Manages portfolio of large and complex cross-functional programs. Works with stakeholders from different organizations to prioritize and mitigate issues
  • Makes recommendations to functional leadership and cross-functional partners on operational policies, processes and tools
  • Partners with other invested teams to identify and prioritize to meet the work needs for the next 12 months
  • Proactively communicates widely with experts and non-experts at Expedia Group and within the industry
  • Explains complex concepts in a compelling way
  • Leads the creation of content for submission and acceptance at internal and external functional events and conferences to promote the discipline
  • Collaborates with experts in the People team to pipeline for future talent
  • Builds an organizational culture that fosters innovation through encouraging teams and individuals to share and build on each other's ideas
  • Drives best practice for diverse, creative, productive ideation across the organization
  • Facilitates novel solutions for our customers and users by providing team members with insights about user behaviors, needs, processes and pain points
  • Partners with leaders across all of Expedia Group to develop strategic relationships and collaboratively solve problems
  • Supports and informs Expedia Group leaders via a community of practice and product reviews
  • Advocates for the work of the organization opportunistically
  • Holds self and team accountable for setting and meeting departmental goals
  • Identifies and resolves issues that may impair the team's ability to meet strategic, financial and technical goals
  • Helps team members identify and build key relationships and networks inside and outside the organization
  • Encourages and gains the commitment of others towards the vision, mission, values and organizational goals
  • Coordinates and leads managers and drives the development of a diverse and high quality talent pipeline
  • Shapes the open, collaborative and candid culture of the organization by building team and organizational rituals, processes and practices that build strong team bonds and an open trusting environment where diverse viewpoints, opinions, and approaches and candid conversations and critiques can happen
  • Drives efforts around culture, work, and values across the team and the broader organization itself
  • Drives organizational processes for feedback and contribution from the team to improve team culture and practice
  • Identifies and mentors critical talent within subdivision
  • Combines and shares knowledge and skills in more than one functional area to promote efficiency in the department or business unit/function
  • Places individuals in roles and assignments that stretch their capabilities and contribute to their personal and career development
  • Facilitates cross-team and cross-divisional movement of talent as a tool for building skills, capabilities, and creating visibility to talent
  • Actively identifies team educational and training needs and develops programs or recruits specialists to meet those training needs

Who you are:

  • A leader in Program Management space with 12+ Years of proven experience leading global, large-scale programs
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
  • 12+ Years for Bachelor's or 10+ Years for Master's
  • Brings core functional / technical skills that helps bring world-class, complex programs to life, from ideation to execution:
