Job description
The Senior Gallery Manager oversees the smooth day-to-day functioning of the Ashvita’s gallery and projects. Working closely to support the gallery director, they serve as the operational lead, overseeing the gallery and collection management teams, and ensuring the timely and efficient management of all Ashvita’s programs including exhibitions, off-site events and other. The Senior Gallery Manager is responsible for building the Ashvita’s brand through business development, brand partnerships, and strategic outreach and communication efforts.
The role will also involve developing both new and existing business for the company. People management is a crucial aspect of the role along with growing the team strategically and with overall organisation growth in mind. This will include decisions around bringing new projects, resource planning, budget planning, and managing operations of the organisation.
This role will require the person to wear multiple hats at the same time. Independent thinking and decision-making will be crucial to succeed along with the ability to provide creative solutions for new projects. Essential Qualifications:
A Master’s Degree or equivalent, ideally in a creative, marketing and/ or humanities fields
Leadership and drive for the arts and culture sector
Excellent oral and written communication skills along with a flair for writing in general (concept notes, exhibition texts, reports, briefs etc)
Ability to grasp nuances at lightning speed and be able to keep both a macro and micro view of projects happening in parallel
Managing a team (all aspects involved) is a crucial skill for this role
Knowledge of Telugu is a plus
Essential Experience:
5-7 years of experience within the arts and culture sector
Experience in exhibition making is strongly desired
Prior experience in working for a structured company and managing teams
Demonstrated leadership in past roles
Flair for providing creative solutions and for business development
Demonstrated experience of managing multiple projects and donning multiple hats in the past role(s)
Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Slack, Trello etc.
Key Personal Attributes & Skills:
Expertise in written and spoken English
Knowledge of at least one vernacular Indian language is ideal
Ability to set goals and manage delivery
Ability to create project management structures, systems, and processes and follow-through both personally and with team members
Competency using IT systems, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
An effective team worker who shows initiative and takes ownership of the role
Good time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Strong attention to detail and good observation skills
Excellent communication skills, including conflict resolution
