Job Description Summary
Activities contributing to the design and development of Rotating Electrical Machines products, solutions and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing Rotating Electrical Machine products and components Accountable for the quality of own work. Subject to direct operations supervision/prescribed work instructions/systems checking. Executes within a well-defined operations framework. There is generally a step by step sequence of standard operational tasks which need to be followed to achieve an end result.
Job Description Roles and Responsibilities - Experience in design and development of large rotating machines.
- Develop mechanical designs, in response to customer enquiries
- Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D cross sections, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection
- Developing conceptual knowledge of professional discipline. May include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in broad area.
- Participate in engineering practices and business improvements initiatives within the group in cooperation with the management team
- Identify opportunities for development, cost down, VAVE, and IP generation.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects
- Understand various standards relevant to design of motor/generator as per NEMA/API/IEC ABS/ANSI/CSA/DIN/DNV/Lloyds/Ex standards.
- Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience. Understands how work of own team contributes to the area.
- Resolves issues using established procedures. Consults supervisor or more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
- Collaborates with others to solve issues. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Exchanges technical information, asks questions and checks for understanding.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree from accredited college / university in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- 4 – 6 years of relevant experience
- Experience in design of rotating machines.
- Expertise in ProE or 3D modeling Tools
- Expertise in using AutoCAD
- Experience in using CREO, TeamCenter & Pack office
- Ability to read and write technical specifications.
- Ability to translate and interpret BOM into orders and parts.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
Desired Characteristics - Design of large Electrical rotating machines such as Induction, Synchronous DFIG, PMG machines.
- Experience in using Six Sigma tools for continuous improvement.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Cross functional, ability to work on matrix environment, and international team experience.
- Effectively communicate across all organizational levels, departments, and functions.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude and business acumen.
