Job Description
- Lead efforts on pre-investment ESG research and due diligence along with investment teams and external consultants
- Review company data and documents, participate in management interviews, conduct relevant surveys, and assess regulatory compliance to identify key ESG risks and potential improvement opportunities, and evaluate their materiality and impact on an investment
- Research, analyse and prioritize ESG concerns by flagging key issues and propose timelines for mitigation or improvement
- Propose ESG recommendations to management and engage with companies to address ESG issues and to a less extent, work on value creation opportunities
- Support ESG data collection, analysis, reporting process to ensure portfolio companies improve on ESG metrics
- Respond to current and prospective clients' ESG-related requests, including coordinating responses with individuals in Investors Relations and Investments teams
- Work collaboratively to create and maintain ESG presentation materials, investor reporting, and other communications for key stakeholders
The Successful Applicant
- Strong passion and background in sustainability topics. Familiarity with private credit transactions is a strong plus
- Master's Degree with strong academic credentials academic experience in sustainability-related fields is a plus
- 3-5 years of professional experience in sustainability and ESG topics such as climate change, water, waste, worker safety, circular economy, diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), ESG ratings and reporting, etc., preferably in investment context at an ESG advisory/consulting firm or a financial institution
- Familiarity with International Finance Corporation (IFC) and World Bank (WBG) frameworks such as the IFC Performance Standards, IFC Sustainability Framework, IFC/WBG General Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, etc
- Strong analytical, communications, and project management skills and ideally, experience interacting with global senior level executives
- Ability to manage diverse stakeholders and competing priorities, and complete tasks in demanding timelines
