Sector Specialist - Manufacturing

Thomson Reuters

Location

Bangalore | India

Job description

The manufacturing team covers a wide range of companies in sectors such as aviation, travel, freight transport, home building and of course, manufacturing. If you are interested in exploring why planemakers want to produce more jets while engine makers want lesser jets, when Boeing will launch its next new aircraft, what happens when the FAA's warning systems go haywire, what is next for Ford and GM as they race to catch Tesla, when will autonomous machines made by Caterpillar and Deere gain wider adoption, why is travel recession proof (so far) and what will be the impact of a looming downturn on some of the most critical companies in the world, then this is a position for you. The manufacturing team's sector specialist will play a leading role in reporting on some of the biggest and most exciting companies on the file – the corporations behind the 'real economy' that reflects our everyday lives. The S&P 500 expansion will also provide an opportunity to delve deeper into companies that don't end up making the news on an earnings day and dig out strong story ideas. The successful candidate will work closely with the Editor in Charge, Manufacturing and will have a track record of breaking news and covering spot stories with the accuracy, speed, context and freedom from bias that Reuters clients demand. They will look for new ways to tell these stories and build a rich file of initiative stories. An ability to write with clarity, speed and expertise is essential.

This person will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues in North America and around the world to ensure smooth co-operation on stories.

The Manufacturing Sector Specialist will:

Work with the EIC, report and write the top stories of the day;

Maintain and execute a strong pipeline of follow up and initiative stories;

Contribute to news planning and develop and maintain a sector database detailing key stocks to cover;

Develop sector specialization through research, networking, etc.;

Develop strong links with reporters and editors in New York, Chicago and Detroit, becoming a point person for manufacturing coverage out of Bangalore;

Deputize for the Editor in Charge, Manufacturing and mentor new joiners to the team;

Be innovative and flexible in providing coverage by suggesting improvements, challenging accepted norms and introducing new ways of storytelling.

The selected candidate will report to the Editor in Charge, Manufacturing, Bangalore.
