The Opportunity:

Maersk is hiring a Principal Software Engineer , who will report into the Senior Engineering Director for ISCE and lead technology vision for ISCE.

In this role you will have the opportunity to influence product owners, software engineers, machine learning experts, data scientists and leaders across Maersk. You will be trusted by the company to solve our hardest problems and lead the architectural direction of our most ambitious ideas. Your decisions will have a significant impact on our business and improve the experience for our customers across the globe. You foster team spirit, offer platform-level impact, and increase technology awareness by participating in technology events within/outside company.

The Principal Software Engineer spends most of the time designing/documenting large-scale distributed systems, writing reference code, improving processes, mentoring/developing engineers, advocating and raising the bar on quality, security and operational excellence. The Principal Software Engineer inspires other engineers by directing their work to meet best-in-class standards. He or she, therefore, serves both as a role model and a mentor to every single member of the technical team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer engagement and communication skills as well as exceptional technical expertise to fluently interact and provide guidance to engineers.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Understand our business strategy and translate it into technological solutions with non-functional KPIs. You'll be the bridge between strategy and execution.
  • Decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions that can be used across company.
  • Responsible for depth as well as breath. You bring mastery in software engineering, distributed technology, hybrid cloud environments (preferably Azure), cloud-native microservices, micro frontend UX, ML/AI, data engineering (DynamoDB, PostgreSQL) and data security.
  • Create efficiency where it does not exist. Be three steps ahead of the company's needs, providing solutions that improve efficiency and scalability for years to come.
  • Acts as a force multiplier and team enabler through collaboration and technical solutions, mobilizing individuals around tech initiatives to drive success at both the executive and team levels.
  • Role model, mentor and develop our engineering team through demonstration of exemplary design, code and best practices.
  • Raise the bar on our engineering and operational excellence.
  • Foster shared technical understanding, illuminate pitfalls and bring clarity to complexity while attracting talent and participating in tech conferences.
  • Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.
  • Contribute intellectual property through patents.
