Job description
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform designs and mechanical analyses through more detailed calculations (hand, spreadsheet or approved software) specific to Mechanical Engineering with direction and guidance from Chief or Senior Mechanical Engineer. • Develop capacity to sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings. • Write Specifications for mechanical equipment design, fabrication, procurement, etc. and prepare Requisitions for RFQ and Procurement • Provide technical support for the Proposals, Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment. • Provide direction and technical support for designers. • Analyze designed and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes & standards, and project requirements. • Under Lead Engineer supervision, check drawings and drafting for adherence to designs & applicable standards. • Contribute to new technology designs for incorporation in larger systems, Propose and design equipment design improvements. • Develop broad knowledge in mechanical subject matters, with advancement of knowledge in one or more subject matters. • Review designs and assist Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function. • Travel to fabrication workshops and job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant & fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.). • Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions. • Work as a "team player" with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved. • Coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and Clients. 2 OF 2 SKILLS/ABILITIES: Required: • Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines. • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products. • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills. • Excellent base of mechanical engineering technical skills and knowledge of processes. Preferred: • International travel experience. • Computer aided simulation/analysis of Mechanical Equipment designs (FEA, CFD, Heat Transfer, etc.) • EIT, IEng, or equivalent on path to PE or Chartered Eng. registration EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering Degree minimum • Minimum of 4 years up to 10 years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, working in heavy industrial engineering, or related field. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10% - 25% International and Domestic based upon project demand
