Backup Engineer possesses an in-depth of knowledge in Backup solutions and will closely work with
OS, Virtualization, Storage, Network teams & product owners to help troubleshoot & resolve daily
incidents using strong technical skill-sets. In addition Backup Engineer has the responsibility of
installing, managing, configuring and monitoring all Backup systems and infrastructure. The engineer
should keep the systems up to date with the latest industry standards,maintain the stability and ensure
system uptime. Furthermore, Backup Engineer should work on the assigned projects as per the
company requirements to deliver them on time with the highest quality and reliability. The engineer
needs to support the 24x5 operation roster basis with weekend on-call support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Listed below are the essential duties and responsibilities expected, other duties may be assigned from
time to time based on the business needs.
● Accountability
â—‹ Knowledge & experience on Backup/Storage technologies such as IBM Spectrum
Protect / Brocade / Veritas Netbackup / HYCU and Spectra Logic Tape Libraries.
â—‹ Sound knowledge and experience in Backup hardware devices such as Tape Library's
/ Data Domains.
â—‹ Strong conceptual background on backup architecture & offsite tape rotations.
â—‹ Good knowledge on concepts of networking, virtualization and operating systems.
â—‹ Strong communication, presentation skills.
â—‹ Stay current on new technologies and new features
â—‹ Automation and configuration management experience
â—‹ Provide input to team leads/Managers and collaboratively work with them in ongoing
projects.
â—‹ Good understanding on ITIL processes regarding incident, change, problem, and task
work
â—‹ Ensure company processes, policies, and standards are being adhered

● Delivery Responsibilities
â—‹ Backup Engineer is expected to maintain, manage and upgrade backup infrastructure
according to defined Policies and Standards.
â—‹ Practice to meet all organizational wide technical practices and standards - i.e.
architectural, quality and regulatory.
â—‹ Attend to issues in a timely manner and resolve incidents according to SLA's.
â—‹ Continuously monitor systems/Channels and respond within agreed time intervals
â—‹ Enables timely delivery of the projects.
â—‹ Facilitates communication between Technical Operations and Product Engineering
Teams when required, including engineering status and technical information.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
● A degree level of education in an IT discipline or have the equivalence in training, experience
and exposure
● Minimum five (5) years of experience in highly technical Backup environments specially TSM
/IBM Spectrum protect environments.
● Vendor Certifications on relevant technologies (IBM Certified Administrator - Spectrum Protect
v8/v7 or any other backup certifications)
● ITIL- Foundation / AWS / Azure Certification would be a value addition.
