About The Team

The UW Analytics Team Asia is responsible to provide analytical and underwriting support to four underwriting desks within the region - including ANZ, China, Japan and Southeast Asia & Dragons. Our key contributions include supporting treaty renewals, assists our global Parameter Taskforce framework and providing underwriting allied activities. We enjoy a broad spectrum of different regions and knowledge via interactions with experts across the Swiss Re Group.

About The Role:

Position summary & Main tasks/activities

We are looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join the Property UW Analytics Team in BLR for Asia region with a strong academic record and industry experience in natural catastrophe modeling. This job offers you a chance to join the dynamic, fast paced world of a highly specialised financial services organisation.

  • You are expected to develop your own expertise in costing/underwriting methodologies, costing tools, (re)insurance products and markets knowledge applied in the assigned underwriting desk of Asia region. Reporting to the Team Lead UW Analytics Asia Bangalore you will be adding to Swiss Re's costing/underwriting capabilities, which are utilised in order to achieve our financial targets. You are a good team member who is eager to learn and possesses strong social skills.
  • You evaluate and assess risks in accordance with company guidelines and standards and advice underwriters. You will perform underwriting analysis using internal and external risk assessment tools (e.g., RiskLink) to best assess Swiss Re's client accounts.
  • Analysis of property exposure and investigation for various data issues
  • Modeling of complex property portfolios in Swiss Re internal and external risk assessment tools (e.g. Risk Link, AIR, MultiSnap, GRP)
  • Help underwriters in understanding model results, model differences and limitations
  • Collaborating with underwriters in benchmarking model results and costing/pricing of reinsurance contracts – providing in a more advanced state end-to-end product design and costing.
  • Continuously developing and applying best modeling and costing practices
  • You coordinate with underwriters/client managers during renewals to ensure high quality and timely delivery for your assigned market.
  • You would be responsible for both quantitative and qualitative narrative of the loss pick for the treaty under consideration. This translates to building comprehensive understanding of data, costing and pricing tools, market intelligence and impact on overall Swiss Re portfolio.

You will play significant role on key portfolio tasks including but not limited to historical performance, forward looking views, model reviews, and market studies.

Professional & Personal Skills:

  • A degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering, Finance, Actuarial Science or a related subject.
  • +6 years of experience in insurance/reinsurance industry, preferably with NatCat knowledge,, hand-on experience of CAT modelling and property underwriting tools.
  • Primary insurance know-how is an advantage
  • Excellent in oral and written English. Proficiency in another regional language a plus.
  • Good programming (SQL, VBA, R, Power BI etc.) skills is desirable
  • You have demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills and are a pragmatic problem solver, also under time constraints and changing boundary conditions.
  • Great team member - able to build working relationships across technical fields, and work effectively across the P&C value chain
  • Strong ability to learn technical and business knowledge quickly.
  • An independent thinker - willing to form and defend own view on technical topics.
  • Able to travel in the region occasionally.
