Job Description:
As a Senior Accountant for Central Accounts Payable, you will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the organization's accounts payable processes. Your responsibilities will include supervising a team, ensuring accurate and timely payments to vendors, maintaining compliance with financial policies, and continuously improving the accounts payable function. You will contribute to the financial stability and efficiency of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable Supervision:
- Lead and supervise the accounts team located at various cities, providing guidance and support from a central location.
- Review the work of junior accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Invoice Processing and Verification:
- Oversee the receipt, review, and processing of invoices from vendors.
- Verify the accuracy, completeness, and coding of invoices.
- Ensure invoices are properly approved before payment.
- Ensure receipt of credit notes against purchase returns.
- Adjustment of open credit notes against outstanding bills.
- Review & maintain vendor ageing.
- Payment Processing:
- Manage the preparation and processing of payment batches, including checks, electronic transfers, and ACH payments.
- Schedule payments to optimize cash flow and take advantage of discounts while adhering to payment terms.
- Vendor Relations:
- Maintain and nurture positive relationships with vendors.
- Address vendor inquiries, discrepancies, and payment issues in a timely manner.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, accounting standards, and legal requirements.
- Prepare reports for management and assist in audit processes.
- Expense Reporting:
- Oversee the review and processing of employee expense reports, ensuring adherence to company policies.
- Ensure timely reimbursement of valid expenses.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounts payable processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs.
- Implement best practices and automation where applicable.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Invoice Accuracy: Measure the percentage of invoices processed without errors.
- Payment Timeliness: Ensure payments are made within agreed-upon terms to avoid late fees or penalties.
- Vendor Satisfaction: Evaluate vendor feedback and maintain positive relationships.
- Expense Report Processing: Monitor the time taken to process employee expense reports.
- Compliance Adherence: Ensure all accounts payable activities comply with financial policies and regulatory requirements.
- Team Productivity: Assess the efficiency and productivity of the accounts payable team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Inter-CA or other relevant professional certifications are preferred.
- Substantial experience in accounts payable and accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Oracle's Netsuite preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in accounts payable or a similar role.
- Supervisory or team leadership experience is a plus.
