• Minor electrical installation
• Minor wiring
• Assist with the construction of experimental devices
• Perform maintenance, repairs and new installations on research and industrial equipment with direct supervision
• Follows all lab safety rules and regulations and uses protective equipment to prevent electrical shock (hot work is not allowed)
• Interprets wiring diagrams, engineer’s sketches and specifications to determine design factors
• Install and de-install various types of wiring, cable, conduit, switches, fixtures and circuits safely
• Performs cable pulls through conduit and tray
• Installs lighting and power circuits, fiber optic cables (no terminations), power control equipment, motors and generators (typical voltages 480v 3ph and below)
• Work directly under lead electrician and at times independently
• Experience in electrical application for high and low voltage electric system
• Ability to work well under the supervision of a Electrician following electrical code manuals
• Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or equivalent experience in electronics, telecommunications and/or computer technology is required
• FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License or equivalent license for radio repair is preferred, but not required for initial employment
• Technical knowledge and skills that would enable you to pass the Alabama Power Craft Knowledge and Skills test is required before employment
• Understanding of the various topologies, telecommunications, wireless, data and voice networks and how they interface with each other
