Hybrid Working
Structured hybrid role:
At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). The purpose of this role is to support the Commodity Research team by gathering relevant data and performing analysis in an efficient and timely manner to help come up with a differentiated viewpoint for our clients.
1. Improve and maintain existing oil supply models
2. Assist the senior analyst in developing models for other geographies, increasing research coverage
What will you be doing?
• Gathering and organizing data meaningfully to analyze and evaluate trends for relevant commodity (energy)
• Building or Updating various databases and models maintained by the team
• Analyzing and evaluating trends (demand, supply, prices, flows, etc)
• Writing-up ongoing updates and contributing to research publications
• Keeping track of relevant news reports on major markets
• Generating files/analyses for client requests
• Summarizing our latest views and insights into marketing presentations for the senior analyst's client meetings
• Working with the team to generate new ideas as well as produce and publish research reports
What we’re looking for:
• Basic understanding of and keen interest in global oil and gas markets
• Proficient in econometrics and have good quantitative skills (statistical packages such as Eviews, STATA, SAS or equivalent) as he/she will need to update and analyse various databases and models maintained by the team. He/she will also be required to suggest modelling changes/improvements.
• The team deals with a large volume of data (relating to demand, supply, prices etc.) and the candidate should have handled complex data, as they would have to figure out optimal ways to structure data/databases so we can efficiently perform ongoing analysis. The candidate should be proficient in VBA and Python so that he/she can automate tasks as well as develop new models or maintain existing models
• Working knowledge of Bloomberg
• Understanding of financial markets and instruments
