Job description
- The role will be responsible for managing broad range of critical accounting and governance functions for investment equity and OpEx accounting processes including AIA accrual, PwC Fee accrual / allocation, and market upload process for ABNA and tax team. Investment Equity process is highly complex and critical from AXP financial statement consolidation perspective.
- It will be critical for this position to provide thought leadership to complex scenarios, determine an appropriate solution and drive it through to implementation.
- OpEx accounting also requires collaboration and interaction with wide variety of stakeholders including non-accountants and it will be imperative for the delivery leader to mitigate ambiguous situations/scenarios.
- The role requires strong partnership and collaboration with LE Controllers, Treasury controllership, CPA, LFO, Segment controllers etc
- The incumbent will provide people leadership to a team of 10 colleagues and will be responsible to steer an inclusion and engaged environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assessing E2E impact on Investment Equity process pursuant to Legal Entity restructuring, liquidation, sale or fresh acquisitions and ensuring seamless execution.
- Manage Efficient / Effective Accounting close (monthly/quarterly/year-end) for Investment Equity, AIA, PwC Audit Fee accrual / allocation and completeness of Market Upload MJEs received from ABNA and Tax group
- Ensure strong controls and compliance to be able to meet and exceed all audit, regulatory SOX requirements and ensure appropriate governance cadence around close activities
- Act as a subject matter expert provide accounting guidance for investment equity process
- Ensuring strong governance cadence around the process deliverables
- Chart of Account governance for Investment and Equity transactions
- Monitor adherence to defined policies and processes to ensure financial integrity and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Manage stakeholder engagement and build relationships across wide spectrum of team including LE Controllers, GTC, regulatory reporting and other business teams
- Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery levels including automation and other value add efforts besides identifying activities that can be eliminated
Functional Skills/Capabilities:
- Strong technical accounting background and experience in accounting and reporting.
- Strong understanding of American Express business fundamentals and financial statements of AXP
- Proven People leadership experience is a pre-requisite
- Functional understanding of consolidation process reporting.
- Ability to manage and drive change and proven capability of thinking transformational ideas and converting those ideas into reality
- Good understanding of AXP legal entity structure to support investment equity process
- Exceptional problem solving, influencing and persuasion skills, process mindset and analytical skills with big picture ability while also having an eye for detail.
- Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Results driven / ability to perform multiple tasks, work to strict deadlines and prioritize tasks.
- Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships across multiple cross functional teams.
- Good analytical skills and able to connect business drivers and linkages.
- Ability to design, implement, manage and streamline complex processes.
- Project management experience in handling large customer defined projects
Academic Background:
- CA/MBA with at-least 6 to 8 years of experience or B. Com with minimum 10+ years of experience of financial accounting and reporting and related controls.
- Technical Skills/Capabilities:
- Understanding of US GAAP reporting requirements
- Knowledge of Platforms:
- Oracle GL
