Job description
Position Summary:
The Legal Executive plays a vital role in supporting the legal department of an organization. This position involves assisting the legal team as well as internal and external stakeholders in various legal matters and providing legal guidance and support to other departments within the organization. The Legal Executive reports to the Senior Manager - Legal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research, analyze laws, regulations, and precedents, and provide concise summaries and recommendations to the legal team. Stay updated on relevant legal developments and industry-specific regulations.
- Contract Management: Assist in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various contracts, agreements, and legal documents, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies. Collaborate with stakeholders to finalize contract terms and conditions.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Support the legal team in developing and implementing compliance programs and policies to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Identify potential risks and provide recommendations to mitigate them.
- Legal Documentation: Prepare legal documents, including legal opinions, memoranda, and correspondence. Ensure accuracy and completeness of legal documentation and maintain proper record-keeping systems.
- Legal Support and Advice: Provide legal advice and guidance to internal departments on legal matters, including labor laws, corporate governance, intellectual property, data privacy, and contractual issues. Conduct legal training sessions for employees as required.
- Litigation Support: Assist in managing legal disputes and litigation matters, including drafting and reviewing legal pleadings, coordinating with external counsel, and gathering necessary evidence and documentation.
- Management Support: Assist the Senior Manager in overseeing day-to-day operational activities, ensuring smooth operations, and resolving issues promptly. Collaborate with team members to optimize productivity and efficiency.
- Process Improvement: Identify operational inefficiencies and develop strategies to improve processes, increase productivity, and reduce costs. Analyze existing workflows, propose enhancements, and implement changes with the approval.
- Team Coordination: Coordinate and delegate tasks to subordinates, ensuring proper distribution of workload and adherence to deadlines. Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Training and Development: Identify training needs for teammates and coordinate training programs to enhance their skills and knowledge. Provide coaching and mentorship to team members to foster their professional growth.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or Master's degree in Law (LLM); additional certifications or advanced degrees in relevant areas are a plus.
- Proven experience (typically 1-2 years) working in a legal role, preferably within a corporate/legal department or law firm.
- Sound knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and legal principles.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal information in a clear and concise manner.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in using legal research databases, document management systems, and other legal software.
