About the Job
Purpose of the Job:
The ability to collect, analyze and interpret scientific/business information relevant to the identification of early investment/partnering opportunities is critical to inform the Lilly Venture Science teams strategy.u00A0 u00A0The LRL Venture Science Consultant provides analysis and insight on a variety of technologies, scientific concepts, companies, and assets that are of interest to our overall ventures and business development organization.
The core of the Venture Science Consultant role is to be a trusted and valued business partner who has deep technical information and data expertise along with a strong analytical skill set.u00A0 The Venture Science consultant will partner with the venture science and business intelligence teams to provide expertise in intelligence research and analysis that informs Lillyu2019s broader investment strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the venture science teams to identify areas of specific interest to build landscapes and other evergreen reporting mechanisms that inform strategic decisions.
- Identify relevant and reliable sources of data/information or surrogate information sources and assimilate it quickly into useful formats to inform broader venture strategy.u00A0u00A0u00A0
- Apply analytical and creative problem-solving skills to bring data from multiple sources together and contextualize for research/business meaning. Projects may include, but are not limited to, landscapes (target, disease, clinical, or technology), pipeline analyses, company profiles, general surveillance. u00A0u00A0
- Identify and suggest alternative paths of inquiry for challenging questions. An inquisitive mindset and a passion for investigating hard-to-find information when addressing questions with ambiguity and uncertainty is necessary.u00A0
- Be able to provide and defend gathered intelligence, methodology, content, and conclusions to leadership in a clear, concise format.u00A0
- Work collaboratively within the Business Development Intelligence team to prioritize work and deliver on time-sensitive requests.u00A0 Including collecting and managing internal data as well as authoring on internal reports for senior leadership.
Basic Qualifications/Requirements:
- Advanced degree/PhD in life sciences domain, scientific, or health-related field (Pharma/Biotech).
- 5-10 years of experience in scientific or pharmaceutical intelligence roles.
- Excellent organizational skills able to manage multiple projects and juggle conflicting priorities in an ambiguous environment.
- Demonstrated high learning agility able to quickly grasp new concepts and absorb large amounts of information under pressure.
- Ability to simplify complex information and concepts in a clear, concise and digestible format so the reader can quickly understand the content and conclusions of the analysis.
- Excellent communications skills in the form of oral presentation as well as other mediums (Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint).

Additional Skills/Preferences:
- MBA or equivalent business development experience with focus on business development activities.
- Relevant scientific or intelligence experience in one or more research areas of interest for Lilly (genetic medicines, digital health, devices, connected care, diabetes, oncology, immunology, neurodegeneration, pain, discovery chemistry).
- Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, or designing user interfaces.
Soft Skills:
- Strong work ethic, personal motivation, and team player who is dynamic and result oriented.
- Ability to operate effectively in an international matrix environment, with ability to work across time zones (True global team base).
- Strong desire to build and own their personal brand as the interact across a dynamic team.
