Job description

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop long-term strategic plans for port development and expansion, ensuring optimal utilization of resources and infrastructure.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to determine the viability of proposed port projects, taking into account economic, environmental, and regulatory factors.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, shipping companies, and port operators, to gather input and ensure alignment with industry standards and regulations.
  • Evaluate and optimize port layout and design, considering factors such as vessel size, cargo types, and future growth projections.
  • Identify and recommend infrastructure investments and operational improvements to enhance port efficiency, capacity, and safety.
  • Monitor and analyze port performance metrics, such as vessel turnaround time, cargo handling, efficiency, and berth occupancy, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including cost estimates, project timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to port operations teams, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to port planning and development.

Technical Skills

Job Description

  • Proficiency in port planning software and tools (e.g., PIANC Guidelines, AutoCAD, GIS).
  • Strong understanding of maritime operations, vessel characteristics, and cargo handling processes.
  • Knowledge of port infrastructure design and construction principles.
  • Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and sustainability considerations in port planning.
  • Ability to analyze data and use statistical modeling techniques for forecasting and optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in port architecture planning or a related field.
  • Behavioral Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex port planning challenges.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in analyzing technical data and preparing reports.
  • Leadership qualities to guide and mentor junior port planning staff.
  • Certifications: Preferred certifications in port planning or related fields, such as the Certified Port Executive (CPE) designation or the Professional Engineer (PE) license.
