CCB - Home Lending - Strategic Analytics and Data

The Strategic Analytics and Data team within HL Risk provides analytical insights and recommendations to the risk policy owners and the Home Lending Chief Risk Officer to help manage and mitigate risk and support regulatory deliverables. The department also provides accurate data to assist the production of financial forecasts, and the development of credit and financial models. The analytical viewpoints span nearly all aspects of mortgage banking including influencing policy for new loan originations, loan servicing, capital markets, the bank's held-for-investment loan portfolio, and financial forecasts and reserves.

Job Description

Our VPs are relatively senior members of the Risk Management and Strategic Analytics team within Chase Home Lending. They focus on data driven strategy analysis , identification of emerging risks , development of insightful reporting , and presenting findings to business partners and business leaders. They own and lead analytics that provide a Risk point-of-view , make data-driven recommendations to mitigate risks, and solve business issues that have a direct impact on the bottom-line. They develop and monitor key-leading indicators of risk and detect, analyze, summarize, and escalate unexpected trends to senior management for Chase as well as Industry.

In this role, the candidate will be expected to utilize various industry data to provide insights on Chase's market position and understand the drivers for any changes observed. This includes research into industry origination& servicing policies and trends, performance and how they compare to Chase, and understanding how internal policy changes may impact our volume and performance. The candidate will also be expected to conduct emerging risk research through monitoring housing and macroeconomic data trends.

Across these major responsibilities the candidate will need to be able to extract, manipulate and analyze portfolio performance data from multiple internal databases, match and compare with data from external sources to understand portfolio behavior in the light of external events/trends.

Other responsibilities include performing ad-hoc analysis and generate thoughtful insights for Risk Management by extracting data, performing data manipulation and quality checks, and developing actionable insights via impactful presentations to peers and senior management.

Background And Technical Skills

  • Good understanding of Credit Risk and providing risk point of view. Exposure to lending products with ability to identify and analyze segments of risk and 8+ years of experience in data analytics with ability to carry our segmentation, data mining and evaluate time-series data
  • Sound understanding of a data querying language or manipulation tool such as SAS, SQL, or Python. Exposure/awareness of Alteryx and Tableau or similar tools
  • Strong organizational skills to proactively build and manage their own book of work
  • Effective time management skills to handle competing priorities appropriately and meet tight deadlines
  • Capable of working independently to solve business problems and recommending solutions to meet department goals
  • Ability to mentor junior team members to detect, analyze, summarize and escalate unexpected trends in the data to senior management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to summarize wide-ranging research into a crisp and concise takeaway for a senior audience and graduate degree in a field such as (but not limited to) Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, MIS, IT, Economics, Risk Management, Analytics, Finance, or Accounting

  • Experience in managing stakeholders – building trust through hard work and honest assessments of projects, strong communication, high emotional intelligence
  • Working as part of a highly productive team, where culture and cooperation are critical for success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any prior experience working with large relational databases and synthesizing large quantities of data using tools such as Teradata, ORACLE or Snowflake is a plus
  • Any prior experience working within a consumer bank, particularly within a risk or compliance function, or within the home lending line of business is a plus
  • Prior experience in the mortgage business or knowledge of the residential real estate market in the United States is a plus
  • Any prior experience building and operating within a well-controlled data environment (following established procedures, recommending enhancements to controls) is a plus
