Who will you be working with In this role you will collaborate with a global cross functional team.
How will you make a difference The Locomotive Weight and Clearance Engineer demonstrates leadership through application of Systems Engineering practices in development of mechanical solutions to meet locomotive weight and clearance requirements. In this role you will utilize technical expertise to solve critical systems-level problems, develop concepts in support of GLO (Equipment) and GSO (Services) requests, and have the ability to impact both short-term and some long-term business goals through Engineering design and validation.
What do we want to know about you - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
- Experience in a Technology role.
- Proficiency in Excel-based model usage and design.
- Willingness and ability to travel 10% of the time.

- Background in locomotive design, packaging, or service.
- Knowledge of locomotive functionality.
What will your typical day look like - Develop weight and clearance strategies for new and modernized locomotive products in support of GLO (Equipment) and GSO (Services) businesses.
- Coordinate system, subsystem and component engineers during requisition processes to identify potential ballast configurations and down select to optimal configurations based on external and internal requirements.
- Provide cross-functional communication on project status to Technical, Commercial, Sales and Product personnel.
- Interface with customers on new concept designs through formal and informal design processes.
- Own packaging of vehicle concepts and understand impact of decisions on product weight, balance, cost and performance.
- Manage requested projects to an appropriate level of investigation depth without loss of design fidelity or mechanical cohesiveness.
- Research existing locomotive designs and applications to understand how to adapt best practices into new concepts.
- Balance established design methodologies with new approaches to provide innovative products with appropriate levels of design and implementation risk.
- Develop validation plans for weight and clearance solutions.
- Clearly articulate design solutions and related risk for a cross-functional team.
- Interface regularly with Supply Chain personnel to drive consistency in implementation and validation across multiple build facilities.
- Work multiple requisitions in parallel to support demands of both business units.
- Adapt to project timelines and deliverables to meet evolving market needs.
- Participate in other aspects of the proposal process to confirm that only sound technical solutions are offered to customers.
