Role Description Project: This exciting research project focuses on developing a real-time system for generating 2D orthomosaic maps from drone-captured images. Orthomosaics are geometrically corrected images that accurately represent a top-down view of the Earth's surface. Real-time generation of these maps will be achieved by leveraging computer vision and deep learning techniques to process and stitch together images captured by a drone during flight. This project has the potential to revolutionize various applications, including disaster response, precision agriculture, and environmental monitoring.Scope of Work:Conduct a literature review on existing real-time orthomosaic mapping techniques. Develop and implement algorithms for feature extraction and image registration using computer vision and potentially deep learning methods. Integrate algorithms with drone control and data acquisition software for real-time processing. Evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of the developed system through field experiments. Contribute to the preparation of research papers and presentations for publication at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, etc.) Strong background in mathematics, particularly linear algebra and calculus. Programming experience in Python or C++ Familiarity with computer vision concepts (feature detection, image registration) Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) a plus Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Desired Skills: Experience with drone platforms and data acquisition Experience with research methodologies and scientific writing Experience with publishing research papers (publications a plus) Benefits: Gain valuable research experience in a cutting-edge field.
