Job description
Role Overview:
As a Gameplay Animator, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing animations that enhance the overall player experience. You'll collaborate closely with the game design, art, and engineering teams to create seamless, compelling, and responsive animations that integrate smoothly into the gameplay.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animation Creation: Develop high-quality animations for characters, creatures, objects, and environments using industry-standard animation tools and Unreal Engine's animation system.
- Character Movement: Design and implement character movement sets, including locomotion, combat animations, idles, transitions, and special abilities while ensuring responsiveness and fluidity.
- Collaboration: Work closely with designers, artists, and programmers to understand gameplay requirements and technical constraints to deliver animations that meet both creative and technical specifications.
- Prototyping and Iteration: Create prototypes and iterate on animations based on feedback to refine the gameplay experience and address performance considerations.
- Animation Blueprinting: Utilize Unreal Engine's animation blueprints and state machines to integrate animations into the game, ensuring they interact seamlessly with gameplay mechanics.
- Optimization: Optimize animations for performance without compromising visual quality, ensuring smooth gameplay across various platforms and devices.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of animation processes, guidelines, and best practices for the team.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Unreal Engine, including its animation system and Blueprinting.
- Strong knowledge of animation principles, character rigging, and keyframe animation.
- Experience with animation software such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max.
- Proficiency in Motion Capture (MoCap) technology, including setup, recording, and integration into the animation pipeline.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate ideas clearly.
- A portfolio showcasing high-quality gameplay animations and an understanding of game development pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with motion capture technologies and workflows.
- Understanding of scripting and coding languages (e.g., C++, Python) for animation-related tools or plugins.
- Familiarity with other aspects of game development, such as level design or scripting.
