Job description
Our client, a leading Indian conglomerate, is seeking an Independent Senior Economist who will play a pivotal role in producing, overseeing, and contributing to high-quality and innovative research and analytical work focused on macroeconomic and sectoral issues. The incumbent will be responsible for producing research-targeted notes for senior management and will contribute significantly to thought leadership projects.
Job Accountabilities:
- Design, manage, and execute macroeconomic or sector-specific research projects.
- Provide insights to the board/strategy team.
- Conduct background research and literature reviews.
- Write technical reports and policy briefs.
- Prepare thematic research reports targeted for senior management.
- Contribute to thought leadership projects and participate in the dynamic research and analysis agenda of the Economics team.
- Build relations with a wide range of stakeholders and engage productively with key internal stakeholders, including executive functions, treasury, and other group verticals.
- Work with the Treasury team to generate an internal view on interest rate cycles and create macro-economic data sources.
Note: This is a project-based role that requires Full-time On-site support in Mumbai for an initial duration of 12 months.
Skills Required
Knowledge and Skills:
- Solid analytical skills with a demonstrable ability to work with diverse and complex quantitative and qualitative data from a wide range of sources.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to write quickly under pressure without errors.
- Attention to detail is essential, along with experience in leading research projects.
- Advanced quantitative aptitude and statistical analysis skills.
- Familiarity with the use and development of economic modeling.
- Prefer experience across markets and/or across sectors in macro/thematic research.
- Strong background in data analysis, excellent writing skills, and expertise in macroeconomic policy.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills – both oral and written.
- Proficiency in at least one statistical software or language and conversant with various computer applications, including Microsoft Office Tools, VBA, and statistical software applications (e.g., STATA, R).
- Ability to work under pressure and on multiple projects.
- Understanding of contemporary debates in economic policy in India, US, and Europe.
Experience and Qualifications:
- PhD or Master's in economics (or relevant discipline) from a reputed university with an excellent academic record.
- Sound understanding of economic theory and empirical methods.
- 20+ years in corporates/MNCs, with exceptions for candidates with similar experience in organisations like Reliance or Adani.
- Experience in macroeconomic model-building and strong analytical and writing skills.
