Title: Storage and Backup Administrator I Location: India The main objective of the Storage and Backup Systems Administrator is to support our SAN/NAS and Backup infrastructure. Classifying data, provisioning LUNs, assigning the proper storage type and tier, ensuring backups are performed, and immutability and integrity are tested. This role will be the primary support when data loss/disaster happens in the organization's infrastructure. Ensures we have a good data protection plan and to backup all kinds of data within the organization. Treats every backup failure as a priority incident and resolves it quickly. Works with Business Continuity to maintain proper RPO/RTO in case of a recovery need.
Accountabilities & Essential Functions - Understands Pure Storage use for block and file data.
- Understands Cohesity backup software and L1 support by actively checking any alerts/warnings of the cluster.
- Ensure that the SAN and NAS are healthy and report any issues to Level 2 support.
- Ensure backup failures are remediated and escalate to next-level support to resolve the backup issue in a timely manner.
- Maintain good communication with respective teams for backup failures and raise an Incident request for resolution.
- Monitor the backup support dashboard for new incidents and tasks, which should be actioned per the agreed SLA.
- Handle Incidents/Requests as per the ITIL or Mouser process.
- Communicate the backup failures & warnings, along with storage utilization trends to Level 2 support.
- Monitor the long-running backup jobs and act upon the issue.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues relating to storage and backup operation and performance. Escalate to senior members as needed.
- Ability to provide guidance for optimal usage of storage and backup of different applications.
- Ability to prioritize, manage and perform under pressure to meet SLAs'
- Able to work with vendor support to resolve issues promptly.
- Available on weekends or after-hours/holidays when help is needed for production issues.
- Required to learn and use good time management to complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to work with different teams, especially on storage and backup requests.
- Possess a positive attitude, good teamwork, good interpersonal skills, proactively act, and taking the initiative.
- Knowledge of ticketing tools.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes.
Skills & Certifications - Storage admin/engineer certification on Pure.
- Cohesity admin/engineer certification.
- In the absence of certifications, extensive related work experience on backup /storage.
- Extensive proficiency in deduplication and compression.
- Knowledge of zoning and CLI commands on the switch.
- Knowledge of VMWare ESXi.
- Ability to identify root causes of issues and remediate them.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
