Job Summary - The primary purpose of this role is to provide advanced analytics capabilities to support data science initiatives. This role works to ensure the alignment, buy-in, and support of diverse stakeholders while driving data science solutions. This position leads a team responsible for one of a wide variety of topics. Examples include predictive modeling, personalization and recommendation algorithms, natural language processing and text mining, search, ranking and related problems, optimization, and mathematical programming with applications in areas such as labor scheduling, inventory and capacity planning, network flows, and supply chain optimization. This role is a people leader who provides insight and recommendations to his/her team while working to clear obstacles and empowering and enabling others to solve highly complex problems.
Key responsibilities
- Conducts deep statistical analyses, including predictive and prescriptive modeling to provide forward looking, actionable insights on Personalization, Search & Navigation, SEO & Promotions, Supply Chain, Services, and/or other company priorities
- Performs advanced analysis on consumer data in order to deliver actionable observations on how Lowe's as an organization can more effectively put the customer at the center of decision-making and capitalize on consumer insights
- Provides resource allocation and optimization recommendations to inform business planning and ensures deliverables on high-quality insights
- Identifies and foresees technical, business and execution risks in projects and takes action to mitigate them
- Works closely with the product, analytics, and engineering teams to implement the tools needed to support the empowerment of the organization with data
- Leads and develops a team of Data Science professionals (full-time and contract resources) with varying levels of expertise
- Supports the creation of an automated insights generation framework for Lowe's business partners
- Collaborates with cross-functional groups, stakeholders, and senior leadership to ensure alignment and understand business needs to deliver actionable insights for ways Lowe's can more effectively capitalize on new consumers and existing consumers
- Maintains expert-level knowledge on analytical trends and emerging methodologies used to perform consumer data analysis and data modeling techniques used to derive valuable insights that drive the business
- Synthesize analytics and statistical approaches into easy-to-consume storylines, both visually and verbally, and provide indicated actions for audiences
- Provides leadership to the team by attracting and hiring talented individuals, setting goals and communicating clear expectations, providing timely and constructive feedback as well as meaningful developmental opportunities, managing performance, providing resources and support as needed, and sponsoring and leading team members through change
- Hires, trains, and develops talent for growth opportunities; monitors team/individual's morale and engagement to maintain highly effective and collaborative environments
Educational Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field AND 8 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 6 years project management experience
OR
- Master's degree in mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field AND 6 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 4 years project management experience
OR
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field AND 4 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 2 years project management experience
Minimum Qualifications - 3 years of experience leading project or technical teams with or without formal direct report responsibility; this includes experience providing technical direction, thought leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members
- 5 years of experience with advanced data modeling techniques
Preferred Qualifications - Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field
- 8 years of experience in applied advanced analytics
- 5 years of leadership experience managing global team(s) in a retail environment
- 5 years of experience with advanced data modeling techniques
- 8 years project management experience
