About The Role

Our Enterprise DataOps services provide the foundations for enabling AstraZeneca's bold ambition - to be the pioneers in science, leaders in our disease areas, and transforming patient outcomes. We are looking for a Scrum Master / Team Coach to drive adoption of Agile principles and practices to establish and support our Data Engineering platforms. These platforms are the basis of the services our team offers to all departments, including R&D, Operations, Commercial, Finance and HR.

We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master / Team Coach to play a pivotal role in our Agile transformation journey. In this position, you will be responsible for facilitating the adoption of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) across multiple teams within our organization, ensuring efficient and collaborative delivery of services that enable high quality and timely Data Products.

What You'll Do

The Scrum Master is a servant leader who helps the teams achieve their goals through continuous coaching, mentoring, and the smooth facilitation of processes. It is the Scrum Masters who ensure that the team is focused and knows the tasks they must accomplish in the time given.

The team requires the expertise, energy, and leadership from a Scrum Master to coordinate and optimise our ways of working as well as helping to build a structured and productive environment for our delivery roadmaps across various capability streams. You will raise expectations within the whole team, solve complex technical problems and work alongside complementary service delivery teams.

The role will report directly to the Service Lead. Responsibilities will evolve over time as the way we manage our data evolves. Objectives will include but not be restricted to the following:

Facilitate SAFe ceremonies, including Team Syncs (Daily Standups), Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives, PI (Planning Interval) Planning, Backlog Refinement sessions and Inspect & Adapt workshops.

Manage and continuously imprpove our workflow management tool (currently Jira).

Collaborate with Product Owners, Release Train Engineers, and other stakeholders to align business goals with Agile delivery.

Identify and address impediments to team progress, assisting in conflict resolution, to ensure a smooth flow of work and timely delivery of Features.

Coach and mentor the team on SAFe principles, practices and ceremonies to enhance productivity and foster continuous improvement.

Foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement within Agile teams.

Skills And Experience

In addition to a strong technical background, individuals applying for this role should have business acumen and strong leadership capabilities. You will raise expectations within the whole team, solve complex technical problems and work alongside complementary delivery platforms.

In addition to a strong project management background, individuals applying for this role should have business acumen and technical capabilities, providing evidence of:

  • A strong understanding of Agile principles and practices, with a focus on scaling Agile within large organizations.
  • Experience as a Scrum Master and/or Agile Coach, preferably within a SAFe framework.
  • Working with teams to develop innovative solutions that have a major impact within their business area and organisation
  • A proven record of change and transformation experience across a global, matrixed organisation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate teams in a global environment
  • Awareness of emerging trends in the IT marketplace
  • The ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language and vice versa

It would be ideal if you have:

  • A high-level understanding of modern data and software engineering principles, such as DataOps, CI/CD and Data Management (Governance, Metadata, MDM/RDM, Privacy, Security).
  • Pharmaceutical business awareness
  • Cross-industry business awareness

Qualifications

We would expect the following level of education and qualifications.

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant field
  • SAFe certification (SAFe SSM, SAFe SP, or equivalent) is desirable
  • Additional Agile certifications (CSM, CSP, etc.) would be advantageous
