Hybrid Working 

Structured hybrid role:    
At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home.  We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.

Introduction:

•    The role is for a strong all-round Sr. Database developer working as a ODS Technical Lead within the CTO - Ways of Working team, 

•    The purpose of this role is to provide a specialist service in the field of Business Intelligence to provide a service to the global change portfolio community. Business intelligence ranges from the identification and extraction/collation of data sets through to the analysis and representation of the data. The role sits within Barclays Functions Management office and will work on HP PPM Data amongst other internal data sources.  This role will involve interpreting and translating business analysis and data models to a technical solution within a data warehouse.  The individual will need to build tables, data links to other systems, developing ETL scripts and packages and data transformations. 


What will you be doing?

o    Supporting the product vision to continue to allow the ODS database to be a one stop shop for all change data
o    Provide technical guidance and leadership to ODS team members.
o    Work in collaboration with other CTO teams to achieve business objectives.  
o    Developing new table structures and data links to bring in new data sources
o    Ensuring all data warehouse tasks run as expected, troubleshooting where necessary
o    Maintain documentation to the strategic requirements
o    Support the development and release cycles of the warehouse capabilities
o    Respond to warehouse relating incidents within agreed SLA
o    Peer reviews of other BI Developers code
o    Input into the technical design and planning to migrate existing Dataware house to the new ODS data platform.
o    Create new ETL packages using SSIS Complex Transformations and Error Handling
o    Developing Python Scripts for Data Ingestion and Job Scheduling
o    Create SQL Agent Jobs and Troubleshoot errors.
o    Create new reports using SSRS
o    Performance tune and enhance existing environment
o    Responding to warehouse related incidents
o    Provide technical guidance to other team member where required
o    Participate in a culture of knowledge sharing, including maintaining documentation in Confluence.


What we’re looking for:

o    Advanced Transact-SQL – triggers, functions etc. and Minimum Microsoft SQL Server DB skills
o    Microsoft BI Stack (SSIS, SSRS)
o    Visualization tools Tableau
o    Ability to understand the business context and translate business requirements to technical solutions. 
o    Data and warehouse modelling and ETL design and development
o    Hands-on development in Python


o    Basic Python Knowledge on Database connectivity and job scheduling
o    PostgresSQL SQL Performance Tuning
o    Domain knowledge of finance / Banking
o    Oracle / p-SQL experience
o    Strong spoken & written communication skills


Skills that will help you in the role:

Good to have Skills:
o    Knowledge of Webservers.
o    AWS/Cloud.
o    Knowledge of GitHub, Jenkins, CICD pipeline.

Programming Languages:

o    Java or python, J2EE, SQL & PLSQL, XML, HTML, Web services.
o    Understanding of how to interoperate with web services.
o    Understanding of REST and SOAP services.
o    UNIX and Linux commands.

Databases:
o    Oracle 
o    MS SQL
o    PostgresSQL

Skills / Aptitude Required:

o    Strong spoken & written communication skills.
o    Ability to communicate with different teams to get the problems resolved on Priority. 
o    Ability to understand the business context and translate business requirements to technical solutions. 
o    Strong technical skills with demonstrated ability to learn. 
o    Good problem solving skills
o    Good team player.
