Overview
The General Manager is a crucial leadership role responsible for overseeing the Civil Engineering department's operations, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety. This position plays a key role in strategic planning, resource management, and fostering a collaborative working environment.
Key Responsibilities - Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the department's objectives
- Oversee project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation
- Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team, ensuring high performance and professional development
- Monitor and enforce compliance with industry regulations and safety standards
- Collaborate with other department heads to ensure seamless integration of civil engineering projects
- Review and approve project designs, plans, and specifications
- Ensure effective communication and coordination with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and take corrective actions as needed
- Identify and mitigate potential risks that may impact project timelines or quality
- Oversee budgeting and financial management for civil engineering projects
- Stay updated on industry trends, innovations, and best practices to drive continuous improvement
- Represent the company in meetings, conferences, and industry events
- Participate in contract negotiations and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors
- Lead by example, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and teamwork
- Report to senior management on departmental performance, challenges, and opportunities
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred
- Proven experience in a managerial or leadership role within the civil engineering industry
- Demonstrated track record of successfully delivering complex civil engineering projects on time and within budget
- In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and regulations
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in project management software and MS Office suite
- Ability to think strategically and solve complex problems effectively
- Professional licensure as a Civil Engineer
- Proven ability to negotiate contracts and effectively manage vendor relationships
- Thorough understanding of safety and environmental regulations
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
