Role Description This is a contract role for a Senior Software Engineering and Management Consultant based in Chennai with flexibility for some remote work. This position is for auditing our current engineering practices, organizational structure, and technology stack to ensure alignment with our strategic goals and management expectations. The consultant will be responsible for optimizing our engineering operations, enhancing team dynamics, and ensuring our projects are delivered efficiently and on schedule. This role requires a deep understanding of software development best practices and the ability to implement modernization strategies effectively. Core Responsibilities: - Engineering Leadership and Organizational Consulting: - Audit our existing engineering team structures, workflows, and dynamics, particularly focusing on our teams in Chennai and ensuring alignment with management expectations in the United States. - Identify and address discrepancies in workload distribution to resolve issues of underutilization and overburdening within engineering teams. - Implement strategies for effective resource allocation, promoting equitable distribution of projects and responsibilities. - Foster a culture of visibility and accountability across global teams, establishing clear communication channels and reporting structures. - Guide engineering leadership in setting realistic deadlines and expectations, promoting a consistent delivery framework. - Technical Infrastructure and Team Dynamics Audit: - Conduct a comprehensive review of our technology stack (Go language, PostgreSQL, Next.js) and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and scalability. - Evaluate current CI/CD pipelines, code deployment protocols, and engineering practices, recommending improvements for increased agility and efficiency. - Assess adherence to best practices in software development, focusing on agile methodologies and the hallmarks of successful engineering organizations. - Strategic Development and Optimization: - Propose and implement modernization strategies for our engineering infrastructure, leveraging automation, AI, and best practices for modular and incremental growth. - Develop and enhance testing, quality assurance, and security protocols to meet industry standards for high-performing engineering teams. - Advise on improving CI/CD processes and engineering workflows, enhancing productivity and project delivery rates. Qualifications: - 8 to 10 years of experience in managing and scaling engineering organizations, with a proven track record in auditing and optimizing engineering dynamics. - Extensive experience in technical leadership, with a deep understanding of Go language, PostgreSQL, and Next.js environments. - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous engineering projects, auditing team dynamics, and improving engineering operations. - Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, with a comprehensive understanding of agile methodologies and best practices in successful engineering organizations. - Excellent communication skills, capable of bridging gaps between management and engineering teams across global locations.
