Job description

As a Design Engineer specializing in fabrication and mechanical systems, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing mechanical components and systems for fabrication processes. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate project requirements into innovative and efficient design solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and quality specifications.

Responsibilities: Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand design requirements, develop conceptual designs, and create detailed design specifications for fabrication and mechanical systems. Design and engineer mechanical components and systems, including machinery, equipment, and structures, using CAD software and other engineering tools. Develop detailed fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for components and systems, ensuring manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with quality standards. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes based on design requirements, performance specifications, and cost considerations, optimizing designs for strength, durability, and functionality. Build and test prototypes to validate design concepts, identify design flaws, and iterate on design improvements, working closely with prototype technicians and fabrication teams. Perform structural analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and other engineering calculations to validate design integrity, optimize performance, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, design review presentations, and design change orders, to communicate design specifications, requirements, and decisions to stakeholders. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, procurement, quality assurance, and project management, to ensure seamless integration of design solutions into fabrication processes and project timelines.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in fabrication or manufacturing environments. Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor, and familiarity with other engineering tools and software for analysis, simulation, and modeling. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics, with expertise in machine design and fabrication techniques. Knowledge of materials science, metallurgy, and manufacturing processes, with the ability to select appropriate materials and processes for design optimization. Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and lean manufacturing principles to optimize designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex engineering challenges, develop innovative solutions, and troubleshoot design issues as they arise. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
