Job description
Purpose
This position ensures the Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance of Telecom services/equipment's in Transmission Network, Generation, IPPs and up to LDC of assigned Grids/Section; engages in site supervision and execution of the installation, commissioning, testing, operation, optimization and fault rectification of Telecom system, Optical Transmission Network and facilities; attend critical faults & tripping and self-mobilization for category B and C fault (internally known as intermediate faults). Seek opportunities and take steps for continual improvement in processes and engineers, assist in annual goal setting throughout the year. These responsibilities are performed with the objective to facilitate smooth functioning of telecom network as per the defined SOPs', followed by ISO 9001:2008 standards and Regulatory/Statutory framework of Pakistan.
Education Engineering Graduate, B.E (Electronics)
Knowledge Hands on experience of SDH/PDH, PLC, PABX and 48 VDC Systems
Advance Knowledge and experience of OPGW and U/G fiber optic cable
Installation/Dismantling and Outdoor Coupling Devices
Knowledge and experience of Tele protection Scheme
Awareness of SOPs /ISO 9001:2008 Standards

Area Of Responsibilities - Site Operation & Maintenance (20%)
- Supervise the Preventive maintenance of indoor and outdoor Telecom system which includes:
Indoor Systems (SDH/PDH, PLCs, PABX, 48VDC battery Chargers and 48VDC battery banks)
Outdoor Devices (Line trap, Coupling Capacitor and Line matching units)
- Execute the testing to examine the healthiness of tele-protection channels of Line differential relay and distance relay protection for EHT 132KV and 220KV circuits over Power Line Carrier and Fiber Optic communication links with co-ordination of GSP engineers.
- Conduct and perform data channels testing with co-ordination of RTU and SCADA maintenance team from desired Grid stations up to SCADA server for assurance of Telecom links healthiness with zero-bit errors.
- Manage the team by availing the shutdowns of outdoor coupling devices to ensure equipment healthiness. As per HSEQ minimum of 4 safety walks required by managers to ensure smooth functioning of indoor and outdoor equipment. Testing of critical equipment like 48VDC is mandatory in every 40-45 days.
- Perform different software/firmware uploading and downloading of cards in SDH equipment's for reliable inter-compatibility between SDHs' in ring operation.
- Fault Rectification and Management (35%)
- Ensure timely rectification of faults. Self-mobilization required in case of Category B and C faults which includes:
RTU data channels: Failures occurred in more than 8 – 10 stations
Distance Relay Protection: Channel outage for more than 4 – 6 Hours
Speech communications: Voice communication disturbance from desired station to LDC Control, between any two stations, one way calling between two stations and any module issue.
48VDC Systems: Battery charger failure/abnormal behavior
- Perform re-routing of data, voice and tele-protection services to ensure availability of backup channels in case of SDH ring/link failure as instructed by reporting line.
- Assure the replacement of faulty equipment modules/cards/hardware's in SDH/PDH, PLC, PABX, and 48 VDC systems with software re-configurations.
- Manage the transmission Line response testing and fiber optic link testing to evaluate SNR/attenuation to produce the characteristics of medium for reliable and better performance of telecom system.
Area of Responsibility Continued - Installation/Commissioning & Testing of Indoor & Outdoor Equipment's (15%)
- Involvement in new installation/commissioning and testing of Telecom systems SDH, PLC, PABX, and Protection as required for data, tele-protection and voice in Transmission Network.
- Perform re-configuration of Telecom system for restoration of services as directed and required by the reporting line due to frequent changes in network.
- Supervision and verification of Installation/Dismantling of OPGW and U/G fiber optic cable with clearance as per safety standard.
- Management of Projects Related issues (15%)
- Provide on-site assistance to projects handling team for successful implementation of project related activities as per the approved SOPs and standards.
- Self-witness of technical test and activities performed on site as per approved standard.
- Perform integration and re-programming of new and existing equipment's of Telecom system necessary for augmentation work.
- Supervise OPGW rehabilitation activities, installation of approved hardware and material on site, coordination with vendors and authorities, assure timely completion of job.
- People Management (5%)
- Conduct on site safety promotional activities, training and risk assessments of employees.
- Ensure all sectional activities to be performed as per SOP, following the SLA (safety leader award) criteria of HSEQ and comply with all legal Regularities.
- Achieve zero fatal & major accidents and Increase reporting of near-miss incidents.
- Ensure implementation of ISO 9001:2008 standards in section followed by SOPs for proper operations.
- Health, Safety and Environment 5%
- Conduct on site safety promotional activities, training and risk assessments of employees.
- Ensure all sectional activities to be performed as per SOP, following the SLA (safety leader award) criteria of HSEQ and comply with all legal Regularities.
