Job description
The Unix Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of AIX and Linux environments. This role involves ensuring the availability, security, and optimal performance of AIX systems(mainly) while managing user accounts, system resources, and software installations. The AIX Administrator collaborates with other IT teams to integrate AIX infrastructure with other systems and to provide seamless support for critical business applications.
Key Responsibilities:
AIX System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain AIX operating systems and related software.
- Perform system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls on AIX systems.
- Implement and maintain AIX system security measures, including patch management and vulnerability assessments.
- Conduct system backups and disaster recovery planning for AIX environments.
- Patching / upgrade of systems.
- Virtualization management.
- Design and implement complex technical solutions based on business requirements.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the organizations technical architecture.
- Manage HACMP cluster nodes for high available applications, configuring networks, applications.
- Support Network Installation Manager (NIM Master).
- Maintain VIO environment, configuring VIO servers, installing OS on LPAR using NIM
AIX Infrastructure Deployment:
- Plan and execute the deployment of AIX servers and related hardware.
- Design and implement AIX storage solutions, including SAN and NAS configurations.
- Collaborate with storage and network teams to ensure seamless integration with AIX systems.
- Participate in capacity planning and scalability assessments for AIX infrastructure.
AIX Performance Optimization:
- Monitor AIX system performance, analyzing system logs and performance data to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Implement performance tuning measures to optimize AIX server performance.
- Recommend hardware and software upgrades to enhance AIX system efficiency.
Security and Compliance:
- Implement security best practices in AIX environments.
- Use Ansible or any automation tool for security automation tasks, including user management, access controls, and compliance checks.
Incident and Problem Management:
- Respond to and resolve AIX-related incidents and problems in a timely manner.
- Investigate system failures and service disruptions, applying appropriate corrective actions.
- Document incidents, root cause analysis, and resolution steps for future reference.
Change Management and Documentation:
- Coordinate and implement changes to AIX systems following established change management processes.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of AIX configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate AIX systems with the overall IT infrastructure.
- Provide technical support to application teams and end-users using AIX environments.
- Assist in the evaluation and selection of new AIX-related technologies and tools.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an AIX Administrator or in a similar Unix/Linux administration role.
- Having good knowledge on Redhat Linux operating systems
- In-depth knowledge of AIX operating systems, system administration tools, and utilities.
- Familiarity with AIX virtualization technologies, such as PowerVM and VIO.
- Proficiency in AIX security and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
- Experience with AIX storage solutions and SAN/NAS configurations.
- Working Knowledge on Vmware, networking concepts.
- Expertise knowledge on automation tools like WSUS, SCCM, Ansible etc..
- Good knowledge on monitoring tools like OpsRamp, Micro Focus, Zabbix or Dynatrace.
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery procedures for AIX environments.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Relevant certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator - AIX or similar are a plus.
- ITIL certification is preferred.
