Job description
The Applications Engineering Team mission is to discover, develop and optimize applications that demonstrate the inherent value of Carbon s technology platform.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learn, master, and stay up to date on Design for DLS best practices to be implemented in every design iteration.
- Work closely with the Applications Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams in Redwood City, CA to support and accelerate the development of applications to production.
- Use hypothesis-driven approaches to understand problems, define test methodologies, evaluate potential solutions, use feedback, iterate and provide solutions or recommendations.
- Stay current on Carbon products, competing technologies and technology trends.
- Serve as an ambassador of Carbon and the AE Team in any interactions with customers (CMs or OEMs).
Educational Qualification
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- Minimum 2 years experience with CAD tools for solid and surface modeling (OnShape, SolidWorks, CATIA, Rhino, etc.).
- Experience with advanced design tools/techniques such as topological optimization, lattice generation, digital sculpting, or generative design.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Minimum 1 years experience with CAD tools for mesh (STL) manipulation (Magics, ZBrush, MeshMixer, NetFabb, etc.), for tasks like textures, repairs, triangle count/file size reduction, triangle refinement/smoothing, etc.
- Comfortable with basic computer programming principles and able to write or modify simple scripts (Python, LUA, JSON etc.). Experience with Matlab, C , or similar environments is also applicable.
- Excellent demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- Strong understanding of plastics and material performance characteristics (tensile, impact, CTE, off-gassing, temperature dependencies, bonding/adhesion, etc.).
- Fluent in English with strong written, oral, and graphical communication skills.
- BS degree (or equivalent) in Engineering with industry experience in Product Development, Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, and/or Product Design.
- A passion for innovation, disruptive technologies with an imminent sense of urgency to improve products, accelerate development, and bring value to our customers.
