Job description
A barista is a skilled and customeroriented individual responsible for preparing and serving coffee and other beverages in a coffee shop or caf . The job description for a barista typically includes the following responsibilities and qualifications:
Responsibilities:
- Preparing Beverages: Skillfully prepare and serve a variety of coffee and tea beverages according to established recipes and customer preferences.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by taking orders answering questions and offering recommendations on beverages and food items.
- Espresso Machine Operation: Operate and maintain espresso machines grinders and other coffeemaking equipment to ensure the quality of beverages.
- Cash Handling: Handle cash transactions and operate the pointofsale (POS) system accurately. Process payments and provide change to customers.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Keep the coffee preparation area equipment and dining area clean and wellmaintained. Follow health and safety guidelines.
- Stocking and Inventory: Monitor and restock coffee beans syrups and other supplies as needed. Keep track of inventory levels and report shortages.
- Menu Knowledge: Have a thorough understanding of the menu including different coffee blends brewing methods and specialty drinks. Be able to explain menu items to customers.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members such as kitchen staff and servers to ensure efficient and smooth operations.
- Upselling: Suggest and promote additional items such as pastries snacks or specialty drinks to enhance the customer experience and increase sales.
- Adherence to Policies: Follow company policies procedures and standards for quality and service. Adhere to health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide friendly and efficient customer service.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to pay attention to details especially in preparing beverages to meet quality standards.
- Stamina: Physical stamina to stand for long periods lift and carry supplies and work in a fastpaced environment.
- Multitasking: Ability to handle multiple orders simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a busy setting.
- Knowledge of Coffee: Basic knowledge of different coffee types brewing methods and flavor profiles.
- Team Player: Ability to work well as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
- Previous Experience: While not always required previous experience as a barista or in the food and beverage industry can be an asset.
