JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose of the position
- Key objective is expansion of LCMA origination business in India, in-line with SMBC's business expansion plans in India.
- Origination, marketing and execution of syndicated loans for SMBC, in particular to spearhead and support growth in originations and syndication efforts in the India loan market.
- Working in close collaboration with LCMA Singapore (matrix) and SMBC India teams to pitch to corporates & institutions including Banks & FIs, Financial Sponsors etc, across products – corporate and structured loans, project finance, LBOs, private credit.
- He/she will be required to have strong syndication origination skillsets and track record, with structuring, credit analysis and deal management capabilities.
- A strong independent go-getter and team player.
Scope and Dimension
- Geographical/Functional coverage: Whole of India. Will be part of regional South & South East Asia (SSEA) team
- Financial/quantitative measures:
- Help SSEA team meet its income budget through active collaboration and origination of transactions
- Pro-actively pitch deals and improve league table standings
- Ensure successful distribution and execution of loans arranged
- Enhance market presence of SMBC in loan syndication markets
Challenges:
· Setup and Spearhead expanded LCMA coverage onshore – this is a newly crafted position.
· Manage all aspects of onshore and offshore regulatory and compliance matters to ensure the risk management and control related responsibilities are well-managed
· Establish strong and collaborative working relationships with respective coverage teams
Job Responsibilities
- To spearhead and support growth of LCMA originations and syndication efforts;
- To drive marketing & pitching to expand coverage of Indian clients, in scope and depth of products offered;
- To develop strong relationships and strongly collaborate with SMBC India's other teams to strengthen our origination & structuring solutions offered;
- To cultivate and deepen client engagements (especially onshore in India) across corporates & institutions (including FIs & NBFIs, Financial Sponsors etc).
- To provide loan capital markets expertise & market views, structuring and deal analysis support across all loan products – corporate and structured loans, project finance, real estate finance, LBOs, M&A, private credits etc.
- To support all deal management (origination and distribution execution work), working in collaboration with LCMA SSEA teams based in SG.
- To uptier and grow LCMA origination business and syndication franchise in India loan market, and to improve our league table status.
- Contribute and support the department wide initiatives (including ESG and collaboration with DCM initiatives) to upgrade and promote marketing of O&D business.
Experience & Qualifications
- University degree
- Minimum 10 years' experience in banking/finance, with successful trackrecord in loan syndications including origination and distribution, particularly in the India loan market
- Strong skillset in loan structuring and product knowledge across corporate, FIs, project & other structured financings, with good understanding of the local rules and regulations around these products.
- Proven ability in client and deal management, with strong investor relationships in the bank and non-bank markets
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
- Strongly independent, highly motivated go-getter
- A team player, able to work cohesively with all internal stakeholders and product partners
