Key Responsibilities - Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with students to assess their goals and provide personalized guidance for study abroad programs.
- Coordinate and facilitate informational workshops and presentations on study abroad opportunities, application processes, and cultural preparation.
- Advise students on academic planning, course selection, and credit transfer for study abroad programs.
- Assist students in identifying suitable study abroad programs and destinations based on their academic, personal, and professional objectives.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate study abroad opportunities into academic programs and curricula.
- Support students in navigating financial considerations, including scholarships, funding opportunities, and budgeting for study abroad.
- Provide comprehensive pre-departure orientations and resources to prepare students for the cultural, social, and practical aspects of living and studying abroad.
- Offer ongoing support and guidance to students during their study abroad experience, addressing any challenges or concerns they may encounter.
- Facilitate re-entry programs to help students readjust to their home environment and leverage their international experience.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student advising and study abroad activities.
- Stay informed about trends and best practices in international education and study abroad programs.
- Participate in recruitment efforts, representing the study abroad office at campus events and fairs.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders and international partners to enhance study abroad opportunities and resources.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to study abroad programs and student support.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness and impact of study abroad advising and programs.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international education, counseling, or a related area of study.
- Previous experience in advising, counseling, or mentoring students, preferably in a higher education or study abroad context.
- Demonstrated knowledge of study abroad programs, international education policies, and cultural considerations.
- Strong understanding of academic requirements, credit transfer processes, and curricular integration for study abroad programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Proficiency in utilizing advising tools, databases, and information management systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic departments, administrative units, and external organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic support and guidance to students facing challenges or transitions.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology and online resources for advising, communication, and program management.
- Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and risk management considerations for study abroad programs.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with an awareness of cultural sensitivities and global perspectives.
- Understanding of budgeting and financial planning for study abroad, including advising on funding options and resources.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate varying student needs and program requirements.
- Ability to contribute to the development and assessment of study abroad programming and services.
