Job Overview:
As a Lab Technician, you will play a crucial role in the efficient operation of the laboratory by specializing in the soldering of printed circuit boards (PCBs), maintaining the lab setup and tools, and overseeing electronic component procurement. Your attention to detail, technical skills, and ability to work collaboratively with a team will contribute to the success of our projects.
Responsibilities:
PCB Soldering:
- Perform precise manual soldering using soldering iron and hot air gun techniques on PCBs according to industry standards and specific project requirements.
- Operate reflow ovens for surface mount technology (SMT) soldering, ensuring accurate temperature profiles for optimal solder joint integrity.
- Utilize hot air rework stations for component removal and replacement during rework processes.
- Inspect and test soldered components to ensure functionality and quality, employing both visual inspection and appropriate testing equipment.
Lab Setup and Maintenance:
- Set up and organize the laboratory workspace to facilitate efficient workflow.
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment, tools, and machinery regularly.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to lab equipment to minimize downtime.
Electronic Component Procurement:
- Collaborate with the engineering team to identify and source electronic components needed for projects.
- Establish relationships with suppliers and negotiate procurement terms.
- Manage inventory levels to ensure an adequate supply of electronic components.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Practices:
- Implement and adhere to good ESD practices in handling electronic components to prevent damage during the assembly process.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of soldering activities, equipment maintenance, and component procurement.
- Create and update documentation related to lab procedures, safety protocols, and best practices.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineers and other team members to understand project requirements.
- Provide feedback and insights to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of lab processes.
Quality Control:
- Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure the reliability and functionality of soldered PCBs.
- Identify and address any quality issues promptly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or coursework in electronics is a plus.
- Proven experience in PCB soldering and rework, with a strong understanding of electronic components and circuitry.
- Familiarity with lab equipment, tools, and machinery commonly used in electronics laboratories.
- Experience in electronic component procurement and inventory management.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow technical instructions and specifications.
- Knowledge and adherence to good Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) practices in handling electronic components to prevent damage during the assembly process.
- Exposure to PCB design software and the ability to interpret and implement designs into physical boards.
- Familiarity with PCBA testing, bring-up procedures, and the ability to troubleshoot and debug issues during the testing phase.
- Experience or knowledge in firmware debugging is a plus.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in PCB assembly.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures in a laboratory setting.
- Experience with software tools used in electronics design and testing.
Working Conditions:
The position involves working in a laboratory environment with exposure to electronic components, soldering fumes, and typical laboratory hazards. Personal protective equipment will be provided.
