About the Role:

Sands Capital is seeking a motivated Associate to perform technical due diligence and competitive landscaping related to Sands Capital's dedicated life sciences strategy. This person will function as an integral member of the Sands Capital life sciences team and collaborate with an experienced team of investment professionals. The incumbent in this role will focus on areas related to therapeutics, diagnostics, and life sciences tools, and perform research activities that will span both private and public markets.

Work Expectations:

The position will ultimately be based in India to work closely alongside our Director of Technical Research in Bangalore. The ideal candidate will have obtained their PhD from a tier 1 institute in India or outside India (e.g., educated in the U.S. or elsewhere with long-term goal to return to India). Sands Capital may assist with any reasonable relocation expenses.

On a quarterly basis, we require all staff (to include global staff, and those based in other offices) to come to Arlington, Virginia (Sands Capital's HQ) for one full week for culture-building initiatives and events.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Building comprehensive and insightful competitive landscapes in areas of interest across life sciences tools, diagnostics and therapy space to guide investment decisions;
  • Staying updated on scientific publications, conferences, clinical trials, regulatory approvals, reimbursement etc. in the focus areas;
  • Helping the team in performing deep technical diligence on investment opportunities;
  • Attending technical conferences and engaging with experts;
  • Performing other position responsibilities, as needed; and
  • Exhibiting behaviors consistent with Sands Capital's Mission, Values, and culture.

Position Qualifications:

  • PhD in Life Sciences with 2-3 years of post-doctoral research experience (e.g., in academia or industry) with specialization in any of the biological disciplines (e.g., molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, biotechnology, etc.);
  • Ability to analyze information from multiple sources (e.g., academic publications, clinical trials, conference proceedings, company presentations), to draw conclusion and provide insights;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Prior financial or business experience a plus.
