Position Overview - Supervises the technical staff and the analytical activities within a designated laboratory section to generate reliable test results. Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff to achieve quality testing results, to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, to achieve operational efficiency and to adhere to established policies, practices and procedures.
- Resolves technical, operational, system and other related issues. Recommends changes in procedures and techniques
- Maintains records, procedure manuals, quality assurance records and quality control records. Maintains documentation required by regulatory agencies.
- Collaborates with other laboratory supervisory staff members and laboratory administration establishing and implementing goals and objectives.
- Performs laboratory and special procedures and maintains proficiency in all procedures within designated section. Evaluates and ensures proper safety precautions and infection control measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of patients, staff and others.
- Monitors performance of equipment and takes measures to ensure proper and safe operation of equipment. Monitors performance of preventive maintenance schedule to ensure timely performance. Evaluates operations, quality assurance, quality control, adequate inventory of supplies and individual performance.
- Maintains inventory of operating supplies.
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees. Plans, assigns, and directs work.
- Participates in accreditation surveys by CAP, Joint Commission, and other accrediting agencies, as well as licensure inspections, and prepares laboratory section to assure compliance with standards.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Laboratory's section operating budgets.
