Senior Engineer - Hydrotechnical ,Mining

Job description

Responsibilities

The successful applicant would be responsible for many of the following:

  1. Direct and review water resource aspects of a range of international mining projects
  2. Desk-based hydrological studies, conceptual, analytical and numerical models, data analysis including characterisation of input and output uncertainties.
  3. Storm analysis, hydraulic calculations and 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling, flood estimation and flood risk assessment including preliminary design and costing of mitigation measures for mine sites.
  4. Development of water balance models for mine sites (using Goldsim) for water use optimisation.
  5. Dam break assessments for mine tailings dams, including non-newtonian flood inundation modelling.
  6. Delivering water components of ESIA studies for international mining developments.
  7. Pre-feasibility, feasibility and detailed civil design of mine water management infrastructure.
  8. Climate change assessment and reporting for mine sites including development of resilience and adaptation measures.
  9. Project management, report and proposal writing, client liaison and mentoring of staff.
  10. Design of hydrological field programmes for mining projects.

Key Competencies

Mandatory Skills

We did love to hear from you if you have these essential skills:

  1. Extensive previous experience of applied hydrology, storm water management and hydrotechnical design (as per above responsibilities) for mining projects across all stages of the mine life in open pit and underground metal mines, ideally across a range of climatic settings (having reached a senior level in a consulting environment).
  2. Total experience 8-12 years
  3. Innovative and clear thinking with an aptitude for working through complex problems to find solutions. Able to engage with colleagues to present ideas and data
  4. Understanding of risk and uncertainty assessment and management including how it applies to hydrology and surface water management for mining projects.
  5. Hydraulic, hydrologic and water resource modelling skills (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TUFLOW, MicroDrainage, XP or PC SWMM), and / or Experience using GoldSim Monte Carlo Simulation software.
  6. Competent report writing skills. Strong English language skills (verbal and written)
  7. Good work planning and project management skills.
  8. Capable of being proactive and working with tight timelines, both independently and as part of a team
  9. Team player characteristics with a desire to work collaboratively
  10. Desires to mentor and develop staff.

Desired Skills

  1. Appropriate chartered status (CEng, CGeol, EurGeol or equivalent).
  2. UK and International experience.
  3. Competency in a programming language (e.g., Python, R, C) would be advantageous.
  4. Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD and ArcGIS software will be advantageous.
