Job description
- You will be the Product Owner of a development team consisting of software developers and testers on Wabtec Norfolk Southern (NS) Project. You will work very closely the Wabtec NS Project Manager, Technical Director, Test Manager, other NS Project Product Owners and the Dispatch Director.
- You will provide the team with a clear and descriptive set of requirements captured as Agile Features and/or User stories and partner with the team to determine what can be delivered through balancing the need for new features, defects, and technical debt.
- You will provide mentoring and guidance to other product owners in best practices on defining, elaborating, and prioritizing requirements.
- You will be the product owner for at least one development team; owning the Scope Definition (Features/User stories & Defects), Elaboration and Prioritization.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Own and manage a Development team backlog; continuously order and prioritize to ensure that 1-2 sprints/iterations of backlog are always ready
- Contribute and influence the overall project backlog of requirements.
- Interactions with Customer, Product Manager, Lead Product Owner to elaborate requirements into actionable Features and user Stories
- Elaborate requirements into Features and User Stories, including strong acceptance criteria and requirement traceability.
- Translate unstructured or ambiguous work requests into actionable user stories
- Reviews Features and user Stories with customer, Product manager, Lead Product Owner to ensure they meet customer and product needs
- Demonstrate expert level skill in problem decomposition and ability to navigate through ambiguity
- Engage frequently with the development team; facilitate discussions, provide clarification, story acceptance and refinement, testing and validation; contributes to design activities and decisions
- Triage incoming customer reported problems, quickly determine if the expected behavior is not met, and define severity and priority. Actively look to reduce the investigation load from the team by performing the initial investigations until the reported system behavior is understood.
- Understand security and compliance requirements; establish seamless integration with Cyber Security and Compliance teams
- Ensures Development team Features and User Stories meet DoR & DoD
- Demonstrate superior persuasion and influencing skills that ensure alignment between customer, product manager and engineering team
- Accept/Reject Development Team Features/User Stories and defects.
- Use software industry standard tools to plan and track features and user stories such as Rally or similar.
- Organize and facilitate continuous Backlog Grooming of Development team Features/Stories
- Organize and Facilitate Development Team Sprint DEMO s
- Provides Status on Development team progress against sprint plan
- Lead efforts to drive resolution of production issues across support and engineering teams
- Reviews User Stories with Lead PO to ensure they meet customer and product needs
- Lead & Represent Development team at project Sprint DEMO s
- Participate in PO Syncs
- Participate in Change Control Board meetings
- Participate in Project wide Backlog grooming
- Leads Sprint Planning meetings
Basic Qualifications:
- Relevant Bachelors Degree
- A minimum of 3 years within the railroad domain, as a product owner, dispatcher, trainmaster etc
- Understanding of dispatch operations is essential to be able to perform this role
- A minimum of 6+ years experience as product owner or similar role.
Desired Characteristics:
- Previous Dispatching/Railroad Experience
- Provide mentoring and guidance to other product owners in positive and constructive methods
- Work under minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity
- Able to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility
- Skilled in providing oversight and mentoring team members. Shows ability to effectively delegate work
- Familiar with native Cloud products and technology such as : Micro services, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, Quarkus, containers
- Ability to understand the technology stack and its impact on the final product
