Job description

You will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of marine vessels within the port or harbor. This role involves ensuring that ships are in optimal condition for safe and efficient operation, coordinating with various departments, managing budgets, and adhering to industry regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities: Schedule and oversee routine maintenance activities for marine vessels, including inspections, repairs, and servicing of engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and other critical components. Coordinate with shipyard facilities and external contractors to facilitate repairs and upgrades to vessels as needed, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient use of resources. Develop and manage budgets for vessel maintenance and repair activities, monitoring expenditures and optimizing costs while ensuring quality and safety standards are met. Ensure compliance with maritime regulations, industry standards, and safety protocols, keeping abreast of changes in regulations and implementing necessary measures to maintain compliance. Lead a team of marine technicians, engineers, and support staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and effective performance. Develop and implement emergency response procedures for vessel breakdowns, accidents, or other incidents, coordinating with relevant authorities and stakeholders to mitigate risks and ensure safety. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and other relevant information, preparing reports for management and regulatory agencies as required. Manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and service providers, negotiating contracts, evaluating performance, and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Professional certification or licensure as a Marine Engineer or equivalent. Previous experience in a similar role within the maritime industry, with demonstrated expertise in vessel maintenance and repair. Strong technical knowledge of marine systems, equipment, and technologies. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders. Sound decision-making abilities, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards governing maritime operations. Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software tools.
