Job Description Summary
The Lead Edge Analytics and Controls Engineer works as part of the software engineering team in an international environment and will be responsible for development, implementation and maintenance of GE's edge IoT solutions. This includes AI/ML based methods, streaming analytics on real time data, deployment of optimization algorithms to improve customer revenues, interfaces to other on-prem control systems and cloud-based asset performance management, forecasting or utility SCADA systems.
Job Description - Lead the development, validation and installation of edge based IoT solutions for Solar & Energy Storage Systems
- Be involved in all phases of software & controls development from product definition to production release
- Drive technical product architecture decisions and collaborate cross-functionally with key stakeholders and domain experts in design process.
- Drive performance and reliability enhancements back to the product
- Participate actively in design, code reviews, testing and software valuation
- Work closely with the ITO / OTR organization and the PM to manage control deliverables and requirements for energy storage projects
- Understand the drivers of system performance and reliability and develop solutions to improve the same
- Support problem identification and resolution of new and installed products
- Support on-site start up and integration of edge IoT based solutions
- Track overall status of projects, deliverables, cut-ins, and goals of the software team
- Have close interaction with customers to drive requirements and customer satisfaction
- Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity
- Develop, improve and administrate customer overview and operational training material for the deployed solutions
- Work across engineering and service organization to prepare documentation for installation, commissioning and operations for use by internal GE employees and our customers
- Be an expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks
Qualifications/Requirements - Master's Degree in Computer Engineering / Science or related technical field from an accredited college or university
- Experience with IoT and IIoT technologies / edge computing
- Experience developing and deploying AI/ML based solutions in an industrial domain
- Minimum of 6 years of experience developing analytics / software / controls applications in high-level software languages (Java, Python, Matlab/Simulink)
Desired Characteristics
- Familiarity with industrial control platforms and integration with edge IoT devices & cloud
- Experience with software virtualization and container orchestration systems, such as Kubernetes
- Cloud development experience in AWS & expertise with cloud principles such as continuous delivery, systems reliability, and security
- Experience working with RESTful API and service-oriented architecture
- Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQLite
- Familiarity interfacing with messaging brokers such as Mosquitto or RabbitMQ
- Experience working in Linux
- Knowledge of communication networks (copper, FO) and their design, SW and
Hardware. Familiarity with standard industrial protocols such as OPC-UA and Modbus, as well as standard messaging protocols such as MQTT.
- Familiarity with Agile software development methodology
- Demonstrated expertise in energy storage controls / battery management systems, validation and verification, formal methods, systems integration, advanced controls or related technologies
- Demonstrated implementation of controls or systems integration in products
- Experience working cross-functionally between Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing,
Logistics, Product Management, etc.
- Ability to summarize and communicate complex technical information
- Strong problem analysis and resolution skills
- Curiosity, passion for excellence, drive to deliver on-time
- Can present technical plans in voice of customer
- Self-start attitude is strongly requested
