Job description
The position is for a Senior Performance Quality Engineer to work on mainly greenfield development projects to test new serverless microservice based cloud applications in AWS. Currently we are in the middle of a large programme to migrate from monoliths with large areas of overlapping functionality to a capability-based model, which can scale and adapt to an ever faster changing educational landscape.
As a Senior Performance Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the high performance and scalability of software applications and systems. You will collaborate with development teams to define performance testing strategies, design test plans, execute tests, and analyze test results. Your primary goal will be to identify and address performance bottlenecks, optimize system performance, and enhance the overall user experience.
About You
We d expect that you ll have relevant experience as a Senior Performance Quality Engineer working with Performance testing and performance tools that provide real benefit to users.
Key Skills & Experience
Performance testing methodologies, tools, and techniques like load testing, stress testing, and scalability testing
Collaborate with Product Owner, Business Analyst, and development teams to define and estimate performance requirements and objectives.
Preparation, review, and maintenance of effective Performance Test Plans and NFR
Design and implement performance test scenarios and scripts for load generation, parameterization, and correlation and integration with Performance tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner/ Load Runner Enterprise.
Execute performance tests using automated tools.
Experience with performance monitoring tools to gather data and analyze system performance.
Analyze test results, performance metrics and identify performance bottlenecks or issues.
Work closely with development teams to troubleshoot and resolve performance problems.
Effective documentation and management of defects in JIRA or related tools
Effective verbal and written communication skills with cross-functional teams
Presenting performance test results, discussing performance improvement strategies, and providing recommendations.
Experience working with distributed teams, including offshore team members.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience with AWS, Cloud Watch, New Relic, Blazemeter and MySQL Workbench
Experience with Agile Software Development
Job Location and Hours
The role is aligned to our Bangalore or Chennai offices in India, working a 45 hour week, or our Manchester, Rotherham, or Oxford offices in the UK, working a 37.5 hour week. Our Rotherham office is located at Junction 1 of the M18.
All our roles are hybrid working; our current policy requires our team to visit their base office no more than once a week, and with the possibility of occasional business travel to other Pearson sites. Candidates must be a suitable commute from their base office as our office presence policy may change to require more frequent presence in 2024.
For this role there is a requirement to provide occasional out of hours support during business critical periods.
