Job Title: Lead - Farm Machinery Supply
Location: Mumbai; Preferably someone who understands / speaks Marathi Position Type: Full Time About Us: Orbit Farming is more than just an early stage startup founded by IIT Bombay and Harvard Business School Alumni with past experience in Mahindra & Mahindra, Swiggy and BCG. We are a passionate team committed to transforming the way farming operates in India. We are building a farming solutions platform empowering mid-sized farms to achieve higher profitability, with a starting point in low power mechanisation. Our approach is to bridge the gap between traditional farming practices and modern, technology-driven solutions. Role Description: Product Pipeline & Testing of Machinery: Build a strong pipeline of relevant products from various OEMs (local and global) for major Indian crops across seasons Utilize strong engineering skills to contribute to the comparison, application, design and improvement of Farm Machinery products Lead and participate in research and development activities to enhance the performance, efficiency, and reliability of our agricultural machinery. Run pilots, measure results and have high standard documentation before product GTM. Manage Demo Plots across clusters to test and showcase upcoming machinery Vendor (OEM) Partnerships & Supply Chain Management: Build and nurture strong relationships with major Farm Machinery OEMs in India, fostering collaboration and strategic partnerships. Develop and maintain contacts within the Chinese or import Farm Machinery ecosystem Oversee the end-to-end supply chain process for Farm Machinery products, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement, contract manufacturing and logistics. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize inventory levels and maintain a smooth supply chain operation. Build knowledge repository of spare parts, replacement cycles and create supply chain for availability of spares Candidate Requirements - Qualifications, Experience and Skillsets: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred. Proven experience in Farm Machinery product development, R&D, or manufacturing. Should have 4 to 6 years of experience in farm machinery manufacturing or supply chain, active trading or assembling. Experience in non-tractor farm machinery is even better Rooted understanding of the farmer use cases and behaviour Should understand the basics of how a machine is manufactured, which are the critical components likely to fail, what is imported, how is the machine transported etc. He should have a sense of margins and costs for different line items Strong understanding of the Indian Farm Machinery market, with established relationships in the industry. Familiarity with the Chinese or import Farm Machinery ecosystem is an added advantage. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive results in a dynamic environment.
