Role Summary
The Assistant Manager - Health & Safety role is responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety practices, policies and procedures are effectively embedded within the business relative to people, projects and premises.
Responsibilities:
Business Leadership
- Promote our H&S strategy and coordinate our H&S organizational structure centered on people, projects and premises.
- Support Management in stepping up organization’s attitude to a positive Health & Safety Culture.
- Work towards ensuring adequate budget and resources are available for Health & Safety and related initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with the internal teams and stakeholders to ensure the Health & Safety Management System is effectively implemented across the business.
- Provide competent H&S advice and support PAN-India and local statutory requirements including Noida (UP) and Bengaluru (KA) offices.
- Establish mechanism for meaningful H&S inductions, organize and facilitate technical H&S trainings as per the H&S training matrix.
- Maintain H&S intranet page and integrate H&S management systems with the Business Management System.
- Monitor and communicate H&S performance to the Leadership Team and Global HSEQ Team.
- Attend and lead team and project meetings, cascade relevant information and encourage feedback.
- Ensure QMS (ISO 9001) and Project Lifecycle compliance across the function, team and projects.
- Support Business excellence for Health & Safety ISO accreditations.
Business Development
- Contribute to business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions.
- Actively develop external and internal client relationships.
Project Leadership
- Interact with Global H&S representatives and work closely with our business support teams.
- Ensure proactive project planning, stakeholder and risk management takes place across projects.
- Supervise the team to identify, assess and manage major project risks and secure the best commercial return from the projects in their portfolio.
- Ensure statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
- Contribute to the completion of monthly management reports to be issued by set deadline
- Ensure emergency preparedness and response planning is up-to-date for the local emergencies and the arrangements for the expats and international travelers.
- Support the head of health and safety to prepare the annual action plan is developed at the start of each year and is monitored throughout the year
- Ensure actions plan achieves the preset target
Technical
- Facilitate the business to establish and implement the H&S Management System in line with ISO 45001 and Global Expectations for Managing Health & Safety.
- Conduct and oversee audits and reviews of the Health & Safety Management System, practices and behaviors across the business.
- Support Management and the teams to ensure compliance of all applicable legislation pertaining to health & safety.
- Plan, develop and implement mental health initiatives across the organizations
- Plan and coordinate the rolling out of annual H&S perception surveys and other survey as required.
- Analyze the results of the surveys and present it to the management along with actions for improvement
- Ensure the technical teams are trained on the Safety in Design and monitor compliance and effectiveness of the trainings.
- Provide advice and guidance on all aspects of Health & Safety on site and in the office environment.
- Work with the Global H&S team to establish international travel protocol for the business.
- Maintain our internal iSMS (Integrated Safety Management System – an online tool) for the incidents and observations statistics and other H&S related activities.
- Analyze statistics of all accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrence, with the view of making recommendations
- Ensure that the near misses and incidents are investigated and the findings and root causes are addressed appropriately to prevent recurrence and the key learnings are shared business wide.
- Perform Premises H&S tours, Premises Risk Assessment, and Fire Risk Assessment at the defined frequency or as and when needed.
- Support the teams during the local Project Risk Assessments.
- Support the business in H&S related procurements to facilitate better execution of the H&S requirements within the business.
- Ensure adequate information, advisories and notices on H&S matters are communicated to the relevant groups on time through various means of communications.
- Support and coordinate with Human Resources in implementing relevant occupational health & well-being programs in India.
Key Competencies / Skills:
Mandatory Skills
- Leadership and managerial qualities with experience of working in complex organizations.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to promote and ensure compliance and best practice in operational situations where it is essential to find a solution to the problem if risk is identified.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and interact with people at all levels in a diplomatic and persuasive manner
- Strong training background, skills and experience in Health & Safety.
- Strong organizational skills – can effectively manage several projects concurrently, ensuring that all deadlines are met.
- Good IT skills.
Qualifications
- Any graduation (preferred BE/Diploma) with additional qualification in Environment, Health and Safety or Health & Safety qualified with a minimum 10 years post graduate experience, preferably in construction/service/facility management industry.
- Chartered Member of associated Professional body or working towards chartered membership
- Membership of IOSH or an equivalent recognized H&S professional body.
- An environmental qualification would be useful but not essential.
