Job Description Summary

As a Research Engineer– Electrical Systems Engineering, you will execute and contribute to technology programs in design, modelling, analysis and control of advanced electrical power conversion systems, grid integration controls, electrical system analysis and deliver solutions that enable Electrification for various GE businesses including renewable energy, aviation, healthcare, grid solutions and transportation.

Job Description

  • As a Research engineer, you will:
    • Simulate, analyze and design advanced electrical power conversion systems consisting of electromechanical systems, power electronics and controls.
    • Develop and implement in hardware advanced controls of electrical system for renewable energy, microgrids and aviation systems.
    • Conduct research involving modeling and simulation of electrical systems, renewable power generation sources and controls, and testing with Hardware in Loop simulation systems.
    • Design and implement controls for power conversion circuits and systems and advanced grid integration controls.
    • Study impact of renewable energy penetration on grid.
    • Collaborate with both GE product engineers and with global research team members on technical projects
  • Write and orally represent the research to its business customers and at technical conferences
  • work with multi-disciplinary boarder team or deliver based on the requirements of project
  • deliver on technical projects with set timelines and cost
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with mentorship. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering in a related field or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering in a related field with at least 4 years of industry experience in an advanced technology development environment crafting, building and testing power conversion systems and grid integration controls.
  • Strong expertise in simulation and analysis of electrical systems and electro mechanical system
  • Understanding of power electronics controls, electric machines and renewable energy grid integration technologies
  • Experience in Electrical System analysis tools such as DigSilent, PSCAD, Matlab/Simulink etc.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in collaborative team environment
  • Unfailing dedication to deadlines and commitments

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
  • Experience in Wind Electrical system, Converter, converter control and grid integration
  • Experience in Electrical System design and protection co-ordination
  • Experience in working with Hardware in loop simulation platforms like Opal-RT, speedgoat and dSpace would be an added advantage.
