The Opportunity This role will be based in our Bangalore Office, ensuring the successful delivery of technically excellent multidisciplinary rail projects and bids primarily in the UK & India portfolio and as well as global.
In this role, you will the Team Leader for the Traction Power team, where you will 'lead and represent' the Traction Power team and you will be part of a wider multi-disciplinary rail team, responsible for the successful delivery of our design commissions for our major clients including Network Rail contractors in the UK (in a design and build context), other agencies such as Train Operators, Councils, Passenger Transport Executives, academic institutions and EPC Contractors in India.
This role will involve preparing and undertaking communications for both internal and external clients, which could be both written and verbal relating to your project/bid deliverables. You will be expected to appreciate 'who our clients are' and show a comprehension of the Arup values in this area and contribute significantly to the Traction Power discipline clients and 'drive' work winning activity.
You will be able to self-manage your own work and supervise the work of others to deliver in accordance with project programmes and budgets. Your project tasks will generally support implications for 'big picture' cost and programme that underpin our client relations both internally and externally.
Is this role right for you You will specialize on Traction Power Systems [25Kv and 750v DC], you will be responsible for determining the design requirements of wide range of Electrification systems that include, Power Distribution, OLE, Third Rail DC, E&P [Electrification & Power for Signalling] from our client brief and be able to make sound decisions and propose the right design solution. Thereafter produce the required electrification design to multidisciplinary design teams on large or medium-sized projects.
Responsibilities All the while, you will have the freedom to work independently, managing your own personal development utilizing our in- house and external training opportunities, where you will be responsible to manage a team of engineers working with you, help taking 'pastoral care' of the team and day to day management of the team. To summarize, this specific role will include, but not limited to the following:
- Leading and the production and checking and approval of Traction Power Supply, and Distribution, conceptual and detailed designs, grounding and bonding conceptual and detailed designs, step and touch potential analysis and calculations.
- Producing Scheme and detailed design (including Power Supply & Distribution equipment layout plans, single line diagrams, protection coordination, local and remote power control, schematic, bills of quantity, wiring and cable plans within multi-disciplinary rail projects).
- Designing traction power control (SCADA) and PLC programming.
- Hands on experience with performing rail specific traction power ac/dc design and analysis (load flow, power factor, short circuit, ground fault, protection coordination, stray current etc.).
Qualifications - Overall discipline experience of 12 to 15 years with relevant experience of 8 years in a Senior Traction Power Supply engineering role.
- An appropriate university engineering degree and ideally an associate member of IET or equivalent.
- Experience of 'Contractors Responsible Engineer' (CRE) or have proven experience in a similar role and construction methods and installation, Vendor Approvals, involvement in commercial discussions with good organisational skills.
- Experience in leading and the production and checking and 'Approval' of Power Supply & Distribution system.
- Experience in assisting Bid Manager in preparing 'competitive tender' submission/bids and in undertaking site surveys/site visits and reporting on asset conditions.
- Expert knowledge and experience in multi-disciplinary 'design integration' and management of interfaces and preparation of Data sheets and bill of quantities [BoQ] in your core domain and interface with wide range of OLE, Third Rail, and other railway electrification systems including Signalling E&P and experience in SCADA, Traction Supply and Distribution and coordination with Rolling Stock.
- Must have held line management responsibility for a team of people.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
