Job description

Job Summary

The electrical design engineer is responsible for creating schematics, electrical layouts, three-dimensional models, and two-dimensional drawings. Designs and drafts working layouts of cable tray systems and conduit systems, master drawings of electrical control product components, electrical panel layouts, assemblies and systems from specifications, sketches, models, prototypes, or verbal instructions. Creates Material Masters and Bill of Materials in SAP. Assists Project Engineers in developing product designs, prototype designs and modifications to existing products or equipment.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities

  • Review customer specifications, analyze engineering requirements and propose engineered solutions.
  • Develop innovative and cost-effective Electrical designs using plant standard procedures, engineering knowledge and experience.
  • Design and integrate industrial automation and control systems, including PLC controls, motor controls, instrumentation, and general machine design controls.
  • Independently handle PCB designs while following engineering guidelines and processes.
  • Develop and implement hardware controls for electrical systems, including the design and development of embedded controls.
  • Duties will include circuit design, requirements and interface definition, modeling and analysis, testing, performance, and design verification.
  • Conducts In-circuit (ICT), Functional Test (FCT) & system-level testing.
  • Contribute to product reliability. Conduct FMEA and DRBFM.
  • Use DFM, DFA and DFT concepts to create manufacturable and testable designs.
  • Ensure designs meet appropriate electrical codes, working alongside compliance teams to meet the appropriate electrical codes (UL, NFPA, IEC, EN, CSA, ATEX, IP etc.).
  • Create three-dimensional models of cable tray systems, conduit systems, electrical panel layouts, and electrical components in SolidWorks.
  • Create two-dimensional drawings of wiring schematics and Programable Logic Controller input/output schematics.
  • Support Manufacturing with technical guidance and problem solving.

  • Design cable tray systems and conduit systems.
  • Create, design and revise layouts, schematics, details and assembly drawings.
  • Create & modify Bill of Materials for different level of assembly.
  • Assist Project Engineers/Designers and other departments, vendors and/or customers with general problem solving.
  • Work independently or as a team member in the global engineering team & Interactions with global engineering teams.
  • Engineering change management with internal departments
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic design and engineering techniques.
  • Ability to perform applicable calculations with mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to create technical drawings, using accepted drafting practices with standard conventional layouts and view projection, which clearly communicate all needed specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.
  • Proficient in Python / C++, Data structures, Algorithms.
  • Exposure to EDA tools and flows.
  • Exposure to Verilog / VHDL / SystemC
  • Software debugging skills with working knowledge of hardware.

Education And Experience

  • BE in Electrical & Electronics Engineering in regular course from recognized institute and university.
  • 6-8 years relevant work experience as an Electrical Design Engineer.
  • Strong CAD skills and practical understanding and application of Electrical Engineering principles for industrial product design.
  • Knowledge of design software (AutoCAD Electrical, Solidworks Electrical) and ERP system, preferably SAP.
  • Familiar with the Code of Practice for Electrical.
  • Knowledge on Cadence Allegro PCB design tool.
  • Experience in Electrical schematic circuit design and power circuit design.
  • Strong understanding of international electrical standards and experience with implementation.
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuits (motor control, MOSFETs, microcontrollers, SPI, I2C etc.).
  • Understanding of common communication protocols, e.g., RS232, CAN, SPI, I2C etc.
  • Strong expertise in simulation and analysis of electrical systems and electromechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of controller design for different kinds of power converters.
  • Understanding of power devices and their gate drive requirements.
  • Understanding of design for EMI/EMC compliance.

  • Understanding of electronics packaging.
  • Hands-on PCB design, hardware design and build experience in power circuits and systems.
  • Experience in simulation tools like PLECS, Saber, MATLAB/Simulink etc.
  • Experience in Microcontroller and FPGA programming.
  • Familiarity with the full life cycle management of electronic products.
  • Knowledge of handling data in a product data management system like SolidWorks ePDM.
